O/T family skiing

Yep, the lower foothills of Olympus Mons on the planet Mars are supposed to be ace for dust skiing at this time of year. Or would you prefer snow?

Hate to get this back on topic, but...

Some years ago I went skiing with the family (over Christmas). As none of us had been before and any or all of us might not have liked it, I wanted somewhere good for beginners and with plenty to do as an alternative to the skiing. Chose Seefeld in Austria in the end and would thoroughly recommend it to families and first-timers.

I remember going to saalbach in austria when I was quite young, there was loads too do there (ice rink, night sledging, loads of shops etc) other than skiing. Definately loads of families go there.

If you are thinking futher afield tahoe is ok, like vegas in the mountains (casinos/sripjoints)

to be honest I haven't been skiing since I went with the school when I was about 12, and halfway through the holiday the hotel caught fire and 8 people died!
So I don't really have very fond memories of that particular activity!

Good luck in your search, and remember, Milton Keynes has a large shopping centre for those all important apres-ski moments!

Go to Leogang in Austria, 40 mins drive from Salzburg Airport, quiet, great Skiing, excellent restaurants.......

Can highly recommend Courchevel 1850.

Went for christmas/new year last year.

Excellent range of slopes for beginners right through to advanced.

Not the cheapest of places but the restaurant are georgeous & there's enough nightlife.

Also, on a car theme, the the local hire car centre dealt in Hummers, Range Rovers or Porsche Cayenne's, at very reasonable rates.

btw if you want to treat the Missus take her to Orta for a holiday, one of the most romantic places in the World.......and it's ony 2 hours or so from Maranello

Chatel - went there Boxing Day with a group, families etc.

Fly to Geneva though, just about 2 hours to the village

 

That's a very good tip. You should also consider courcheval 1650 though, cheaper than 1850 but really good for kids. There's a great hotel called Le Seizena there which is small and pretty cool. That's where I'm going to take my family when we all go next year.
