Took my TR to Lowes today then back home and parked it in the driveway. I went to start it up and just got a dead "click" The car was in neutral with the clutch depressed. I then turned the key without the clutch depressed and it fired right up?

    Is this odd?

I don't think it had anything to do with clutch being depressed or not (although just actuating or deactuating the clutch will "shake" things a bit), but TRs have a reported history here of developing hot mis-starts with the stock Bosch starter solenoid (but will always work perfectly when cold - BTDTGTTS). Sometimes it will catch if you try it a few times and/or wait for it to cool off a little bit. Try a search on "TR solenoid" -- much prior discussion here and at the old site.

My Mondial 8 does this too. I'm an electrical Eng. so should really fix mine but like yours it always starts 1st, 2nd or 3rd go. I would suggest you start with the following, none of which is difficult to verify.

    1. Corroded or dodgy connection at the starter motor.
    2. Starter relay not pulling in, relay contacts passing a lot of current.
    3. Motor brushes or commutator need replacing/cleaning.

    Huh ??? Wazzz that mean ? :)

Oh BTW Steve is right on about solenoid. I had the same symptoms and a new solie (easy fix and inexpensive) did the trick.
