With the prices of F430's being $75K over sticker, that brings them close to F40 price range. So, which one would you buy and WHY??? Rick
F40 no question, for everything it is and ever will be. F430s are growing slightly on me but once the F430 "hype" is over, prices will go down rapidly (most likely it will be the same situation as with 360s). Just my thought.
as much as i love the 430, id have to agree that the F40 would be a much better investment when you think about it long term.
F40 is a classic and will always have a prominent place in the Ferrari lineup. The 430 is apparently an excellent car (haven't driven one myself yet), but there will be successors that replace it and in 10-20 years it will be a good but not landmark car.
The F430 makes more H.P. and is technically advanced over the almost 20 year old F40. My guess is it may be faster on a track too.......
Results from a 1.6 mile speed run, reported on another thread on F-chat (last number is top speed)... Class 7 - F40 49 F40 192.69 ... Class 12 - F430 71 F430 F1 174.52 (New car being run in) Even if the 430 beats out the F40 after being run in, that's not too shabby for a 20 year old car with less HP .
Definetly the F40 , the last car to be launched by Don Enzo , a pure hardcore street racer , with an awesome design , extreme performance . The F430 it`s the world`s best sportscar , but if I have to choose between the two of them , the F40 wins and by a long shot.
They are so different the choice is obvious: F40 if you want a classic and a collectible- but will you really drive it that often? F430 if you want the latest/ greatest and want to drive it more frequently. I would actually go for a F430 at MSRP- just wait and it will happen. I want the modern safety systems both active and passive. For an investment the F40 is without question the better choice. Best Regards, Jerry
If you are keeping the car as an investiment - F40. If you want people to envy you - F40. If you enjoy driving hard and are skilled enough - F40. However, if you an average driver who wants to use the car often - F430.
F40 is everything a ferrari race car should be but honestly where can you drive it except on the track. i have debated for a long time to get an F40 but ultimately it came down to the drivability issue and picked the 430. 430 is an awsome car.
If you want to be fast : F430 If you want the last toy in town: F430 If you want a car that is already a classic (depreciation, sexiness etc) F40 But don't be fooled, maintenance costs cannot be compared. The F40 is a VERY different bird, any new body panel can cost you the price of a compact. And we don't talk engine here. Many F40s are also known for having more water inside than outside when it rains....
Anyone can drive the F40 slowly, but at high speed NO. They can really bite. They are not easy to drive fast and require more driver's skills when compared to modern sport cars.
Its a good question but it mainly has to do with what your wants and expectations are going to be from this purchase. The F40 is going to be a much less refined as you will know and less friendly car to drive on the streets, if you just go out for pleasure thrill rides here and there then the F40 might be a great choice, if you want a more comfortable, refined, top day technology then the 430 would be the choice. Good luck with your decision.
No doubt, the f40. It's an icon. The 430 is a great car but it is still a (regular)v8 ferrari, if there is such a thing. And with each new generation of v8 cars the old one seems to just fade away. Not so with the f40. Darrell
I can't believe this is even an issue...very black/white question. F430 - modern, easy to drive hard and fast, warranty and maintenance, new kid on the block....and yes will be replaced in 5 years. F40 - absolute classic. raw, powerful, a beast. Can't drive it everywhere but the challenge of trying to master it is incredible. IMO I'd go with the F430 if it were your first Fcar or you don't have experience maintaining multiple or classic cars
