I am having trouble fixing an ongoing problem with my 92 TR512. The check engine lights come on (both banks) periodically. Usually, before one of the lights comes on, the car will not accelerate and then the car jumps, with the light then coming on. Later the lights go off. I replaced the O2 sensors. The very reputable Ferrari dealership shop I am using first explained it as a gliche. I am thinking it is a problem in the Motronic fuel injection system. I have read in the literature that this system is very good, when it works. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any advice on the culprit and cure?

    Cool, another 512TR in Miami, I have two 512TRs & a 512M

    BTW Welcome to FChat

how long have you had your TR ? lets see some photos

There are several gremlins in the 512TR. The 02 sensor is 1, if you took the cats out I think the lights may be on constantly. the spark plug wires may be bad & they are VERY expensive IF you can find them,
you might want to look at the printed circuit board in the trunk, also have the switch behind where you put the ignition key in looked at, mine was constantly killing my battery, also buy an extra starter motor solenoid

    Good Luck

Just try some simplest thing first. Like...cleaning the connectors. I cleaned my old TR's connectors (O2) and it runs just fine after that.

Thank all of you for all the helpful hints. I replaced the sx.air flow meter. As soon as I get it out of the shop (Shelton), I will then pursue your hints if my repair did not fix the problem.

I have a 92 red\tan with about 23K miles. I live in Coral Gables and absolutely love this car in terms of the power and looks. I had a 92 Mondial Cabriolet t and what a difference.

I had a similar problem with my 512TR, I cured it by carefully cleaning the Multipin connectors on the ECU's which are located behind the seats under a small carpeted panel, just below the rear widow. Dont use WD40, get proper electrical cleaner/lubricant, cured mine , hopefully yours.................

I second this cure. Do the same for connections in the engine bay. I now cover the engine with plastic when I wash the car just to keep excess water out of the engine bay electrical items. (note if you do this tie a rag to your steering wheel before you cover the engine so you remember to take off plastic before starting engine)

Funny this subject just came out.

My Check Engine cyl 1-6 just came on. The car has a major loss of power when this happens and you can smell the exhaust. I put a timing light on the 1-6 wires and it is firing. The car had this symptom before and it went away and ran fine. Any ideas??

    Thanks

Steve, I would guess it could be the printed circuit board or the spark plug wires may be worn out
