With all the threads on Gas - - CONSERVE - -

If the national as a whole cut back 15%, that would be a severe impact on the oil companies. There would be a substantial drop at the pump in two weeks.

 

Sure I have to dodge muggings and high taxes, but living under 5 miles from the office makes it easy to bike to the office. The building provides secure storage, and this past summer drought has kept the weather dry. Last month I think I put ~60 miles on the car. It helps living near a decent public transportation system, too.

 

Mum says i'll have to start taking her Jeep to school (2004 Cheroke V8 ) and she'll drive my car. The Jeep gets like 12mpg. I'm not complaining. Its a sweet suv

On a serious note, I switched cars making my 6 series my primary run about (gets the best gas milage of what I got). The rest are in psuedo storage. I don't really need to drive anywhere so I don't. I used to average ~20k miles a year. As long as gas prices stay the way they are, expect under 5k.

 

In light of current events, I'll refrain from de-railing this thread with non-essential material. Just this once.

They drop the V6 for a 4banger. How do I know? Well ... unplanned, but the new car is getting here just in time. Crappy commuter, but should be mellow on fuel. I still wish I'd found a Honda Insight (been looking for a couple months ... not related to current peaks).

Getting an average mpg right now of 24mpg (car is a V6 3.2L Intrepid) ... hopefully I can get to the 30s with the lil Pursuit that's gonna be here tomorrow...
I have to call my buddy whose truck barely hit double figures ... he already took his gf's Accent all the time ... before the peak ... can't wait to hear him cry

 

Of course.... getting a bunch of hotties together and posing with a conservation message written across their bare bodies would be an excellent way to contribute to this thread.

I'm getting a Honda Civic to use for commuting when I get back stateside. I kinda hope gas prices stay up, should mean that I'll be able to get a better price on a Bentley Turbo R from someone who can't afford the mileage (Spicy has said no more Ferraris, but a Bentley is okay, go figure)...

 

I changed jobs to cut down the commute. Not by choice but that helped.

I raced a BMW 7 series V8 and ate its lunch on the freeway earlier this week which involved some mass consumption of petrol for 30 seconds.

I generally red line several times per day but have been cutting that out of my daily driving diet.

You know what would conserve fuel?

Let me drive at 70mph where I can get 24+mpg or 80mph when needed across state and get 22+mpg instead of getting stuck in flippin traffic where I currently get 16+mpg.

Or, get me a public trans system in place that I can use to get to work in 30 minutes. Then I'll happily conserve!

same. I had to do it a couple times today though. Moderation is key. only 1 tomorrow.

 

why dont we stop all if not most plane flights. Or make the flights to places less frequent.

 

Only problem with that is the airline companies would probably be pushed into bankruptcy for lack of flights and hence revenue (they still have employees, aircraft leases & airport leases to pay for) just a little bit slower than the higher fuel prices will push them there. We might have an already big problem getting even worse in the airline sector.

 

That's good to know. I have to drive our Chevy pickup (18-19MPG) while our economy car (24-26MPG) is in the shop. At least I got a tonneau cover for the truck this week, I'm hoping it's good for 1-2 MPG.

 

Unlike poor CMY I can stay with the girlfriend due to the gas crunch. Ussually my commute is 36/miles each way. From her house I can take one bus and walk 35 minutes so it takes roughly the same time(one hour) to get to work.

Two months ago as a feasabilitiy study for just such a situation I stayed with her and went home Friday sat sun monday(car stays parked at home or at her place as I can walk everywhere). I managed to drive only 260 miles in a month. I went from burning six tanks of gas to one. I will be doing the same this month.

 

I switched the transmission on my car from 'Sport' mode to Normal. It changes the shift points to a less agressive set up. I'm curious how much of a difference it will make.
