F430 v. 575 at Track!

Not even close. The 430 is far superior at the track, lighter, better power-to-weight, etc. On a 90-sec track, I would bet the 430 would be 4 or 5 sec faster.

The F430 has 490 horsepower at 3190 pounds, giving it a lb per hp of 6.51. The 575M has 515 horsepower at 3815 pounds, giving it a lb per hp of 7.40. This very basic analysis doesn't even take into account the other advantages the F430 has over the 575M.

 

Actually it's 483/508 BHP....those are DIN #'s.


Comparing these two cars is odd, two different animals.
F430, more of a track car, the Maranello is a high-speed cruiser.

 

Not quite 5 seconds, and a LOT less work
Torque is a good thing.

Either way, the point stands that the F430 has a superior lb/hp ratio than the 575M, even though the 575M has twelve cyclinders to the F430's eight.

 

I stand by my statement of 5 sec over a 90 second lap, your chart backs up that guess pretty well I'd say. And while it's less work, I'd also say less fun. I'd rather drive a lighter, more agile car, even with less torque, any day.

I've had a Spider F1, and it most certainly was not more fun than my 12's. And on roads, the Maranello and SA cover ground as well as a 360/430, perhaps faster. I have a 300mi route I drive, and through the twistiest segments, the avg. speeds in corners of either the Maranello or the 360/430 are the same. If you haven't driven a Maranello hard, extensively, you are truly missing something. I have driven them back to back swapping car to car, and while heavy, it is most certainly agile. Steering less wired than 360, but certainly not numb. Maranelloman has tracked his 550, as has Stephens, and neither get embarrassed by 360's. 430 will be harder to beat, and torque is better, but real world useability still gives Maranello the edge.
This argument is like blue vs red, but I have spent a lot of seat time in both, drive very hard(ask MarkPDX or Schatten), and love'em both. 430 truly fixes everything I didn't like about my 360. Just different cars for different buyers. Some of us are lucky enough to have both.

 

The different tires would more than account for the difference in times. GTCH does a 1:29 at Fiorano, which is down to a 0.5 sec difference. My experience (guess) would be a difference of between 0.5 and 2 secs per minute depending on the track.
Track times would come down to tyres and driver.
The 430 does not walk away in a straight line either, acceleration off turns is very close (on my 550 anyway). The biggest difference between the two on the track is 250kg weight.

 

Sfumato, how does the 575 compare with the 430 on long trips through inclimate weather?

I ask because I plan to have both, as much for individual beauty as for performance. I definitely want them to have very distinct personalities and strengths but to each have a sort deathlete's versatility.
