I was wondering if anyone has links, pics or stories of any Ferraris that have been lost and found. Like the classic story of the lost Shelby Daytona Coupe that was found. Stuff like that although sad peaks my interest. So folks if you have any stuff like this please share.

I did find a neat site called CarsInBarns but it just covers older American cars which is neat but nothing like finding a lost 250 GTO lol.

Can't wait to see some responses.

    Thanks

I think James Glickenhauses 0846 would qualify as such. Thought to have been lost and recently discovered as the real thing when believed to have been a replica.

I believe on a recent show called "Rides" Jay Leno showed viewers a Duesenberg that had been in a California garage for @40 years.

Unbelievably, this was not his first Duesie, and he was only going to do enough of a resto to make it a "driver"!

Anyway, I thought it was fascinating, and learned that no two Duesenbergs ever had the same body and trimmings; sharing only chasis and drivetrains!

    You go Jay!

8 years ago, I flew to Guadeloupe (Caraibeean) and my father decided to rent a car.

By Heartz, in the garage, I realised that an unused Daytona was waiting to be used under a cover.
In front of this marvelous black/tan ferrari, was lying a great 250 gt lusso, grey in a bad shape.

5 years later, new travel, same car rent, and also same cars in the garage.

    Just a sun beam within the others..............;

Not a barn pic, but probably worse. This car sat outside for at least a year through a minnesota winter before I found it. Luckily it survived in pretty good shape.

Run a "search" in the Vintage forum and you'll find plenty of stuff about Ferraris in barns, fields, chicken coops, old theaters, Tiajuana junk yards and high school shop classes (yes, 250 GTOs are included).

Here are a few to get you started:

Also, search around on this and the old board for info and photos of 250 GTO s/n 3589GT!

Well, not really a barn and not really lost to anyone (except for the author) seeing as he found its owner by looking up the car on an online registry. Still, a great story.

But, when it comes down to it, most "barn finds" might be lost or missing in the eyes of the general population, but somebody (and most often several somebodies) knows that they're there.

Two weeks ago I received a telephone call:

The story begins in 1981, when a friend of mine asked me to look at a Dino for him. He was interested in purchasing the car. It was in a large collection here in Southern California. I owned two Dinos at the time, and knew the cars well, so I agreed.

The car was in show room condition, everything original, with 3,700 original miles. The color was quite unusual - "Giallo Senape" code 20-Y-464. I can only describe it as suggesting the your shag carpet and refrigerator was this color in 1972, the year of manufacture of the Dino. Many might suggest it is avocado, others offer they have seen it in their kids diaper when they have had diarrhea. These jokes aside, the color is stunning.

Based on my suggestion, he purchased the car. The friend was then 65+ years of age. He drove the car for a few years, put a few thousand miles on it, and unfortunately became ill in 1985. He parked the car in his garage, covered it, and it has not been seen since. He pass away in 1986.

Cut to August of 2005. I receive a telephone call from the family, informing me that they have finally decided to sell the car, and asking if I would be interested. I go over to their home to find the car looking as it did in 1981 when I first inspected it. Original paint, original everything. They did change the tires, have the radiator removed and recored, brakes rebuilt with new flexible lines, and carburettors rebuilt. Other than these items, the car is as it was when he parked it in 1985. The only difference is that it now has 7,900 miles!

Not a barn find, but better, as I can attest for each of the 7,900 miles. If anyone needs to know what a Dino looked like when it left the factory, before being molested by mechanics here and there - you are welcome to fly or drive to see this one. I now own it, and plan on doing nothing to it. I will not replace the age-frayed window channels, nor the stained carpet, nor change the vinyl seats for leather.

Does anybody have more barn find pictures? I went through some previous barn find threads only to find out that many of the pictures were lost in the server crash.

A friend of mine found a 275 short nose about 20 years ago, that had been parked for maybe 10 years and effectively forgotten in a garage that was ready to fall over on itself. He found this here in the Los Angeles area. It was bright orange, having had at best, a $ 200 or $ 300 paint job done to it years before. He bought the car for $ 20k ..... and over many years completely restored it to near concourse condition. It's now bright yellow. Unfortunately, I don't have any before and after pictures or I'd post these .....
