This race shows how far Ferrari has fallen. It looks like it's a combo of the tires and insufficient HP. With the displacement reduction, and hopefully Bridgestone will get their act together, we'll see a better show next year.

Does anyone know if Rubens has another ride for next year?

Suppose to be with BAR but heard this am that he might end up at Williams due to the Button situation.

    Way, Dude:

The Speed commentators said, that RB is rumored to go to Williams instead of Button. It sounds crazy, but the contractual situation between Williams, BAR and its drivers is probably more complex than any of us realize.

The Speed guys shook their heads over RB leaving Ferrari for Williams. But I'm not sure, that's such an obviously bad move. I think nobody can predict next year's season with the V8 coming. Who would have thought that a seemingly minor rule change regarding the tires would put the championship balance on its head this year?

If this keeps up Toyota will pass Ferrari in the constructors.

What a mess. Who said RB will want to drive for Williams? It won't happen, RB is staying.

When I was watching the race this morning, the commentators (RDS, french channel) said there is a "hot" rumour in the paddock that BMW was persuing Webber for 2006 apparently conceding that Frank Williams controls the future of Heidfield their favourite driver.

All of this...MW to BMW and RB to Williams seems like BS to me.

Raikkonen was awesome today. Shame about the tire delamination or else it would have been a certain podium I believe. His qualifying was amazing considering how much fuel he had onboard. The Speed TV commentators were mentioning that he was probably carrying 45kg more fuel in the car than Michael, a penalty of 1.85 secs/lap. Despite this weight penalty, he still qualified 1 second faster than Michael. If there was no engine failire, he would have run away with the win.

Pizzonia did a great job coming from the back to win considering he last drove the V10 Williams three months back. Too bad they didnt show a single second of TV coverage of his drive.

Webber just cannot seem to get a clean race. Every race he has to hit someone or have the car start slow on him and pay the penalty for it. He needs to realize that it is one thing to qualify very well but it takes a certain amount of patience to get the points.

So Schumacher has been elimated from the title contention to no one's surprise. Ferrari has also been eliminated from the constructor's title as well this race.

We saw a fiesty Barrichello today - he would have finished ahead of Schumi if wasnt for an extra stop to change the left rear tire.

Trulli did pretty well in the race today compared to his usual fade to the rear as the race progresses.

Alonso had another clean, easy race to strong podium finish. The Renaults were only a little slower than the McLarens from a race perspective - I was expecting a bigger gap given the stupendous qualifying pace.

I don't like him. He's ******! Hey, Juan, I know you're not used to being on the podium, but during the anthems and interviews, SHUT THE F*CK UP! He did that in Silverstone too. I hate Juan.

I understand hating someone. I can't stand the TV show "Friends" !! I just hate it!

But I used to get a kick out of guys on F-chat that argued that JPM wasn't good enough to be in F1. That was funny :)

If "luck goes to the prepared", then Kimi has got to get out of the bars and get into some serious "what if" sessions.

On the other hand, the engine failure was Ilmor trying to get more oomph out of it than it had, and the tire failure was the effects of d*mn fast driving on a fast track. The only thing Kimi could have prevented was that late spin (for all the good that would have done him).

Odd effect of the "per race" tires -- Michelins are fast, but they're so close to the edge that the fastest cars (or the ones pushing the hardest) are pushing them past their limits.

Speed channel also took notice that only the Toyotas had actual failures at the USGP.

I wouldn't want to put regs in the way of innovation, but in the interests of safety, we may need an objective rolling road test of the rubber before drivers entrust their lives to them.

Michelins are just too close to the edge.

kimi is an amazing driver. to pull off that grid slot with that much more fuel on board than everyone else is stunning, then to pull some of those lap times in the middle of the pack - great stuff.

ferrari is no where this year. rubens made the right move to jump a year early, otherwise he might have rotted on the vine. willi weber said today that schumi will give the news of staying or retiring next march....so he must be thinking about it and cant blame him....but after him....it might b a long dry patch for the scuderia.

good run by jpm. smart driving by alonso - i did not think he was that strategic but maybe it was flav.... fisi is just lucky that kimi spun, and lucky to have recovered so well after that awful quali lap - flav probably ripped him a new one anyway tho !

Since the nominations by the teams to the FIA are due by the end of the year, this means (assuming it is not a bluff) that MS will drive for the 2006 season (otherwise what's there to announce, we would already know about his retirement). And since he feels compelled to make an announcement, it can only be about what he is doing in 2007. But since he is announcing it that early and we know he loves the Scuderia (and wants to give them a chance to prepare/find his successor), it probably means he hangs up the helmet after next year.

yes i believe the announcement will b about 2007. frankly i also think that ferrari must be seriously trying to get either alonso or kimi. i saw a story about how the upper mgmt at renault are looking to exit the game after 2006 win or lose, so alonso will be looking for a ride, and briatore will be looking to maximize for his boy, so dont be surprised to see alonso in red - even tho todt has said he would prefer kimi - dennis will nver let him go.

    A dream come true <sigh>.

Kimi would be cool too. We need one good guy if the other driver is Massa or Rossi.
