Thanks for the history lesson. Sounds like he's done well by motorsport, ploughing a lot of his own money in, but just doesn't have the resources to run in F1.

Perhaps this can shed some light on the rationale behind behind the sale/purchase of Minardi. Will Jordan be far behind? From Grandprix.com :

    I hope it's true.
Any rumours on which engine they will use? Cosworth I guess?
    Ferrari? (doubt it)

Jordan was just bought last year by that Russian dude, soon to be Midland F1.

Also, I hate to break it to the marketing people at Red Bull, but as long as the sport is on TV at 5 AM and 19 of the drivers are foreign, it will never be a popular sport in the US, I'm sick of all the "we need an American driver crap."

[QUOTVERY WELL SAID BUT AMERICANS HAVE VERY GOOD DRIVERS , THE ONLY THING IS THAT F1 IS NOT YET A BIG SPORT HERE AND THEIR IS VERY LITTLE MONEY TO BE HANDED OUT HALF OF THE FEILD ARE NOT THE BEST DRIVERS THEY PAY FOR THEIR RIDE . =PSk]So would you guys be happy to have the American team considered the junior team?

That is what it would be, as the other team would have allcomers ... not only American drivers.

This IMO is a very bad thing for American drivers ... ie, only got in to F1 because a team was ONLY hiring American drivers.

While sponsors definitely guide this (think Massa and Ferrari) I think this would really look bad from an American point of view.

If Red Bull want an American driver ... just put him in a car, don't create a special team only for him and the like.

I really don't think Mr Red Bull has thought about the negative implications of this sort of team structuring and naming. Buy Minardi and call it Gurney F1 or something ... Not Red Bull America team, but importantly you can't openly just hire a particular nationality.

In the end if Americans (for God only knows why?) cannot make the grade, they cannot make the grade!!, just like Australians, etc.

Personally, I think all drivers need that extra "push" to get them from a feeder series to F1. If Red Bull wants to make an entire team to cater to American drivers. Fine by me. Scott Speed is definitely the fastest thing from the US in a long time. I won't fight it.
