First, I suggest you do a search for more detailed information as this is a subject that comes up at least once every couple of months. The car was a Ford-powered replica designed by Mark Goyette and called the "Modena Spyder."

Precision Design & Engineering purchased the design and rights to Goyette's replica and were marketing it as the "CalSpyder" up until not long ago. I was going to post a link to their site (www.calspyder.com) for you, but apparently it's no longer operational.

In addition to the Goyette replica, there are also four still images used in the film that some claim to be of an actual Spyder California (or a Ferrari-based replica). They are:

The replica did the 250 California profile no harm at all in fact . The same is to be said about the black replica Daytona spider that was used in Mimai Vice.

Fake. And that Ferris Bueller was a selfish little sh*t wasn't he? His friend Cameron should have kicked his ***, and taken his 'ho.

The Planet Hollywood restaurant at the Mall of America, here in Minnesota, had one hanging from the ceiling. It was a fake, and as said in an earlier post by Wayne, it was a Modena Spyder replica. The restaurant would always try to pawn it off as a real Ferrari, until you pointed out the obvious fiberglass body. Then they would try to pawn it off as the real car from the movie, but if I recall there were more than a couple cars used, and the truth was that it was just another replica and had never been anywhere near the movie as far as I could find. It was simply a copy, of the copy that was used in the movie. No Ferrari's were harmed in the making of that movie. But back when the movie was fresh out, how many of us lost our breath when he kicked the car, and then it came down off the stands and crashed outside. Sure looked real.

I remember the silver 250 Spyder in the Pink Panther ended up in a wreck scene as well. I don't know if the used the real one given the car was brand new when it was filmed.

Ferris's car was a fake that had a 289 Ford motor in it and the sound was dubed in from who knows what? It was for sale about two years ago for $35,000.

That was our car and it had a 5.0 Mustang motor in it. It was made buy a company called Modena. After driving that car around for a few days it was a blast. More looks then anything on the road. We sold the car to a guy in Kansas City and it is actually at a dealer now who is asking $65,000 for the car. Mainly using it for decoration.
