My '85' Euro 308 speedometer stopped working last week but the odometer is still working. I did a search but could not find anything on this problem. Could it still be my sending unit?

Probably not. It is probably the speedometer itself.

I've never taken my 308 speedo apart, but my Mercedes was similar to the design written about in a BMW 2002 article... Try an internet search on BMW 2002 speedo repair and you should find it. Also check the old Fchat archives, I know it's been discussed before somewhere.

I have the same, but opposite problem; my speedo works, odo hasn't for years(when my dad owned it).A shop reccomended that the whole unit be rebuilt, which apparently involves shipping it to a co. on east coast to rebuild it...i'm not sure if interior gears are connected, sounds like they're not...Please post if you have found a solution...or another mechanic has an answer *9( the one I went to has since been "un-reccomended" by manny other local fcarguys...

I had it happen to my 81, 308. First and Apparently obvious, look under right rear, there is a plug that attaches to the gearbox, make sure that it is actually still there and plugged in. Mine came not only detached but removed? dont know how? I had the servo replaced for around 250.00 plus labor. What I thought was a huge deal was a simple fix. Ferrari of Atlanta diagnosed and corrected the problem. Good luck.
