Dan (208GT4) said I should enter this year, as he competed in '04 and reccconed it was a blast....... and there would be a little rivalry between us, which always focuses the mind!

Both entered "handicap class", which means the organisers allow a few seconds depending on engine size, past form and a bit of guesswork. Dan was given 5.50 sec and me 3.50 being that I've got 1,000cc more. Idea is all times will "net" back to about 12 seconds.

Here's some pictures. Not just of Ferraris.

In previous photo, the Allard is owned by a school teacher in Sussex by the name of Jim Tiller and it goes like stink! 7-800hp ish. Just love those Broadspeed XJ12C's.

Below is Dan and my ugly "pit babes". Bloody usless they were! Spent all day drinking and eating bacon butties......

Line up of GT40's. Most prob replicas, still the biz.

Bugatti T35 near end of 1/4 mile, fair lept off the line!

Me in car. Look, no nerves! I am the Iceman.... ;)

    Well done Richard!

Sounds like you had a blast.

    Couple of questions:

    1) Did you see a guy called Dave Edmands run (ali Caterham 7)?
    2) Did the faux Daytona run?

Thanks Andy. Problem with competing is you don't get to see as many runs as normal, so no Idea how Dave Edmands did. Was "scratch" though, I'd guess very close to 12, perhaps under. Well spotted re: Daytona. ;) Programme said it's an EG Autocraft Daytona. Looked convincing, but well used. 5300 Jag engine. It did run.

Steve, as above, I didn't get to see much so no idea on XJ12C time, probabaly made the ground shake a little! Should all be listed on the Brighton & Hove Motor Club website within a day or two.

In fact one of the first fighters to be called the ICE man is very good friend of mine from Derby. He is called tony Sewell and both him and his brother Howard were 5 times world champs in the art of Tai Kwon Do in the early and mid 80s. Tony (the ice man) shows no enotion during him giving good kickings hense the name;) Most of the 80s mags were dominated by Tony and his brothers, there was/is three of them and they are still great fighters.
If you do a search on him you will see what a great full contact fighter he was. He currently teaches in the next Dojo to were i teach:)

Well done both of you for having a go and getting into the spirit of the event.

Couple of years ago saw a Bentley TurboR saloon (late 80s/early 90s job). Had a kid's seat in the back (unloaded). Put the brakes on, wound the engine up, the whole back end dropped to the floor and he let go of the brakes. Never seen as much tyre smoke! Great thing to see and he got loads of cheers.

Dave won't be overly pleased I think. Nice bloke. Seems to be trying to bankrupt himself in an effort to get <10secs in the 7.

Cheers mate. Dan did extremely well in his 208 with considerably less torque than me. His 64ft time was 2.73 where as mine was 2.63. My "pit babes" told me he was very commited off the line.

There was a Bently RT there (no kid seat). practice 15.03, then ballsed up his run with a 17.33. Your mate sounds very keen...!

    aka mental.

Funniest thing is (and I'm sure Dave wouldn't see this as a slur), he doesn't go round corners very well! I've always been a bit bemused as to why someone with these credentials uses a 7 (whose strength is its cornering really) as the base of his hobby at all.

But I don't query it too much as (a) I don't know him *that* well and (b) it's always nice to know someone more insane than me where cars are concerned as a benchmark!

:D :D fair point. Corners are what a 7's about. Didn't fully appreciate what I'd bought 'till I tiped into the 1st at Goodwood (forget name, double apex), then spent rest of session worring Lambo's!

At least 1 more litre! ;)

I can't believe my time was nearly 2 secs off last years, despite feeling like a good run?

    Dan,

As I was told by "my crew", you got off the line very well, only torque let you down later on. p.s. I think £9k for your car is great value. I'll be there next year, look forward to the next challenge. R (why don't you resurect that 928 of yours and supercharge it?)
