Can anyone shed any light on the history of this daytona.
I don't have the chassis number, just know that it is a 1970 UK RHD plexi glass car in red with black interior and once owned by Victor Gauntlett of Aston Martin.

I think this is lain Tyrrels new outfit, can't tell you much about the Daytona but can tell you Tyrrell's an OK guy, spent a few happy hours 15 years ago being talked through the internals of a 250 TDF he was restoring...

as I'm at most 5 mins away if you want anybody to give you a qualified second opinion just ask

I nearly knocked myself unconscious on its roof!

The car's got plenty of history, including VitorG. More or less complete I think.

It used to be for sale at Runnymede (Aston people, though they have another plexi-car which I also know some bits about). It was on at 69k but would probably have gone for a chunk less as it'd been for sale for at least 4mths when I saw it.

I think it had done 50-60k miles and they seemed genuine based on the rest of the car.

The engine bay was somewhat far from dry, but the car ran quite well (and the diff seemed the best of all the ones I tried with no clonking at all!).

The interior was in need of a good bit of TLC (the dash still is to me - looks even worse in the flesh), but the body seemed free of rust, if (again) in need of a bit of TLC in certain areas (bumpers skew, good polish needed etc).

Ultimately the car wasn't for me - seemed to be a very honest car, but I reckoned it would cost me more to get it into a shape that I was happy with (and stuff like dash coverings etc are a bugger to get hold of if you want them original) than it would to buy one of the better cars available.

If you're looking for a plex RHD car, drop me a line and I can probably give you plenty of input...

    They're brilliant cars!

PS Worth me adding that I saw the car in February. So it could have changed a fair bit (the dash hasn't mind ;) ).

I've seen this car for sale at Straight Eight in London in July 1999 for 59,950 GBP. Maybe you could ask them for some info too.

    Ciao, Peter

I inspected the Daytona today for John, there were a coupe of minor jobs that need to be done however Iain is planning to complete them pre-sale, I found it to be a nice honest car, it could be turned into a very good example with a bit of elbow grease over the comming winter.

    Attached are a few pics

Yesterday I agreed a price with Iain and purchased the Daytona.

Still got to have a few jobs completed on it (Including sorting out the horribly faded dash covering).

Iain's also found me some 9" wheels to go on the back.

I'd also like to thank Andrew from Cheshire Sport and Offroad (0151-348-4798 http://www.csoffroad.co.uk) for giving me such a fantastic deal on the inspection he did for me

You couldn't ask for more -I phoned him at lunchtime, he inspected the car that afternoon and phoned me later that evening with the findings - Thanks again Andrew, We'll have to meet up sometime when I've got the car.

I'm collecting the car in a couple of weeks and will post more pics then.

I've never seen a Daytona with one before.
I presume its a badge bar

It's growing on me, and my Dino has one so at least they match!!

Congratulations. I've seen several Daytonas with the bar on the front. I was already wondering about the dashboard when I saw the first pictures. Is it supposed to be a brownish colour or should it be black? If the latter it really had faded a lot!

    Ciao, Peter

Hi guys, a bit late to the party here but

I was just looking through some old photos I took back in my teens when browsing showrooms for fancy cars.

Here is one I took of JYY 279J in Straight Eight off Goldhawk Rd. It was mid-late 90s I think.

The sales guy was very nice, allowing me to spend undisturbed time poking around their cars. I remember him saying this car belonged to someone from U2. Either the drummer or the bass player - I can't remember which.

They also has a Mercedes 600 in there which I was told had belonged to John Lennon. Maybe I was getting my leg pulled on previous owners...

I have a copy of that very magazine going spare. Slightly bent from standing in a box on a shelf but otherwise near mint. I can post if wanted.
The dash doesn't look too fresh in those photos either.
