I am planning on installing a Capristo muffler as well as the test pipes. When I install the test pipes will it cause the check engine light to come on?

    Thanks

I think if the test pipes have the open hole/screws for the O2 sensor, then I don't think you should have any problems.

Steve, I too would like to install the test pipes on my 512TR, as well as a performance chip and micro adjust the valves. I have a friend that says that these three steps will increase the HP to at or above a 512M. Please PM me or post the results on the forum (in other words, you go first).

Why bother putting in test pipes and keeping a muffler? In my set-up, the catalysts remain but the muffler was removed - yup, straight through pipes. And yes, the sound is absolutely awesome. The 512TR's flat-12 really rocks. I was told that horsepower is now up to 450, but its the sound that makes it worthwhile.

I spend my time dropping gears under fly-overs and seeking out anything that resembles a tunnel. Sure, you can remove the cats too but why bother - at the largest Ferrari dealership in the country even the technicians were impressed and came out to see what was going on - the best exhaust they had ever heard is what I was told.

The only disadvantage is when I'm parking in my small-ish garage and having to spend a while with the windows down - fingers in ears time. And the legality of it? Well I've had no complaints so far. Mind you, there are a lot of Italians near where I live. :)

Please, please, PLEASE post sound clips of your 512TR with test pipes when the setup is complete.

I have a Euro spec 1993 512TR, when I took off the cats and replaced with test pipes the check lights would stay on until I reconnected both oxy sensors and cat thermocouples. This may be just on Euro cars, maybe US cars are wired different.................

I like that setup!!! Lets hear it!!

I have a similar setup on my 348.The sound is awesome and the car still passes emissions since the cats are still on.

I have a Tubi on my 512 TR. Two years ago I installed test pipes and removed the ceramic matrix from the pre-cats, threw away the nasty, rusty pre-cat heat shield (not needed now) and bead-blasted/coated the pre-cats.
The sound is very F-1 like and the power increase is obvious. 16,000 miles later and 0 problems. Oh yeah, it also looks awesome.

Once you replace the cats with the test pipes, the thermocouples are no longer needed (no catalytic converter heat to monitor). The thermocouple ECU's frequently go bad, causing a cylinder bank to shut down and lights to come on (very embarassing). The cure is to disconnect the thermocouple ECU (above the rear wheelwells) from the main wiring harness (it simply unplugs). You can leave the thermocouple and the ECU in place if you want

Yes indeed, the sound without a muffler is very F1-like. I'll do my best to make an audio and/or video recording...but I've got to figure out how first. When its ready, I'll post it here. The earlier comment about keeping the cats and passing the tests is correct and anyway, the sound is already loud enough to scare small children and launch flocks of birds. You wouldn't want to be shy, that's all I can say!

On a slightly evil note, the best fun is timing it just right so that you fly past an open-top convertible just as the revs reach the screaming level, as you're both travelling under a bridge. Its hard to describe the look you get. Talk about shock and awe. :)

So, clips of the car in action coming up...just give it a while longer. Thanks.

I have Tubi on my 512 TR with test pipes and the sound is incredible. Every time I go up the tollway with empty stretch in front of me I have to open my window and listen to the lovely sound of it especially when red line from 1st to 3rd!
    Amazing!
