Can someone please help me with the S/N and model (TR58, TR59, etc) of this 250 TR? I've looked on barchetta.cc and I haven't been able to find it. I saw this car at the St. Petersburg (Florida) Festival of Speed this past April. This is the most beautiful car I have ever seen and I've been wondering about its past since I saw it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

How did you determine that? I noticed some detail differences form other 250TR pics I've seen, but I chalked that up to hand-built variation and racing improvements.

On a slightly different note, what are the main differences between the years of 250 TRs (TR57, 58, 59, 60)?

Don't get Marcel wrong, he's allergic to replicas ;)

But if you liked this fake (there are many things wrong with this car, for example the wheels are way too far back into the wheel wells) you will be blown away when you see a real one - they look great!

    Ciao, Peter

Looking at the picture Wayne linked to, can anyone expand on the reason that the laces are more flush on the fronts and deeper in the rear? Is it a difference in wheel width?

Didn't like the interior. I hope a real car wasn't cut up to make that.

Unfortunately there's not a real pontoon fender TR in this thread.

The pontoon fender car (#8) is 0764, a 335 Sport fitted with a pontoon fender body; there are lots of detail differences between this car and a 250 TR. Then there's a TR59/60 (#7), and as noted, a 625 TRC which was fitted with a 250 TR engine in 1958 by John von Neumann, using a TR engine (0750) sent from the factory for that purpose. I know that particular car very well.

So is the TR with #7 on it real? (Obviously, its not a pontoon fendered one. I like the closed fenders better anyways :))

I've been wondering about the logic of the wire wheels too ever since I read the story about the wires getting shreaded by the increasing power of the engines. But that was a story about the 250 LM. And why would you make the wires stronger (if that's the case) on the front wheels and not on the driven rear ones?

Like FarmerDave i'm very curious about an explanation.

    Ciao, Peter

That's 0672 MDTR, owned by B.M. of Beverly Hills/CA, a 625 TRC Spider Scaglietti as said before. Great car, great race history, finally in good hands and ownership with a real enthusiast. Restored by Richard Freshman.
Originally not a 12-cylinder engined Ferrari.

it´s not a matter of keeping track of replicas but recording the destroyed original chassis.

I think this is the same car that I photographed at the 2003 Winter Park Concours. Listed on the window card as a 1958 250 TR with a five digit serial number. One judge said it was authentic, but it wasn't. At the 2005 Celebration Concours there was another TR replica, very well done, built on a GTE chassis. I'll see if I can dig up photos of the two cars for a side by side comparision.

My reference to no pontoon fender TRs in the thread was to the photos posted; the one car identified as a pontoon fender TR is actually a 335 Sport.

I suspect that Marcel and I would agree on everything here.

Of course. The car in my link is not pontoon-fendered and not fake, just to clarify for John (vroomgt), who mistakenly stated otherwise in response to Dave's (FarmerDave's) post. I think John did not see my original post that Dave was responding to.

    Now isn't this fun?

As for the outside-laced fronts Vs the center-laced rears, the wheels are definitely different widths (5" front/5 1/2" rear?) and the wider width would dictate that the rears be center-laced.
