I resigned from my old company a few months ago and was immediately escorted out by one of the partners. It was a biz dev role, so very sales driven. Months later, I discover that the new young focker trying to take my place still monitors my e-mail address.

How did I discover this, you ask? One of my good friends in my industry returned from parental leave, sent me an e-mail (to the old e-mail address) and asked me out to lunch. The new young focker promptly replied and said "the b-man's not here anymore, but I'll gladly take you out to lunch...", to which she sent the ole FOD e-mail. Then she tracked me down through other channels.

That said, it's a fantastic opportunity to flood this focker's e-mail inbox with fantastic business opportunities and sexual enhancements.

My question to you, my friends, is where-o-where on this world wide web shall I drop my old e-mail address for my replacement's enjoyment?

Yeah, post it here! I'd like the opportunity to be taken out to lunch! I don't mind writing someone to say so either!

Thanks, man, but my old email address reveals my identity. Which I'm protecting for the day I own F-cars, which appears to be coming sooner rather than later.

Ah, I see, you are going to be one of those Ferrari Superheroes that must keep your identity hidden so you may fight for truth and justice!

(either that or you are worried about identity theft) :)

You don't want to use your old e-mail address to sign up for really sicko stuff. That might be used to taint your rep (oh, look what he signed up for, he was sick that's why it's a good thing he's gone). If you do something with the porn sites, use *their* e-mails to sign up.

What you really want is for this guy to wade through a bunch of crap, while feeding him an occasional legit looking e-mail so that he doesn't just tell the admin to close the e-mail account. To do that just sign up at as many free credit sites, mortgage inquiry sites, car sales sites, etc as you can find. Then get some friends to keep on using that e-mail once every few weeks, with some "want to have lunch, I have some biz to discuss" notes.

    Gentlemen, another idea.

If anyone's got an e-mail address at a multi-national that does a significant amount of marketing, with offices in Toronto, I'll gladly PM you my old e-mail address and some details. All you have to do after that is set up a lunch meeting at a Toronto restaurant and we'll go from there.

This really could be fun. I could get the focker to buy a friend lunch, not me, unfortunately, because he knows what I look like. Pix of are on the web.

This opens up opportunities to other hijinks that are just on the tip of my tongue...

Is your old email address a company address? If so, I'm not surprised they are monitoring it. If this is a personal address then change the password to the account.

I might be the only one here that thinks life is too short to waste time with this...........

It's a company address, not a free account.

Sorry for no backstory or motivation for such foolishness, but let's just say they made my PERSONAL life, in addition to my professional life, difficult after I resigned.

How about this. Have your partner start a conversation sent to two e-mail addresses, your personal and your old work e-mail. Make it look like the partner just sent it to you twice to make sure you got it. Then you both make sure you 'reply-all' while you conduct this conversation. If you do it right, the guy who replaced you will think that he's "tapping in" and that you don't realize that your old account is still active.

Now you just have to figure out a 'con' that will make him look dumb if he acts on what he reads.

There has to be someone from his past, who's association with you he is unaware of, that if suddenly reintroduced would cause major turmoil in his life!

I wouldn't bother spamming him, or feeding crap into the email address. Dunno Canadian law (i think you have some, eh?) but he might have violated your rights if the account was in your name. If that is so, why not have the constabulary go to the job site with an arrest warrant? That ought to make somebody's day. (Of course, i am not qualified to advise you under Canadian law and recommend that you enlist the services of a specialist, or at least place a call to the Canadian MOunted Police- computer crime division (every national and many big city police forces have them) and let them tell you what they think...).

I think we have some laws, mostly to protect those who don't want to work...

Indeed, you are not qualified to advise me on those issues and I appreciate you not advising me in that regard.

I don't want to deflate anyones' master plan, but did you have a corp. policy on this issue? I think most companies are within their rights to continue use of an email address. If someone was contacting you and expected a reply, a business would be foolish not to monitor it. It seems a bit unprofessional the way they emailed your friend. They should use an auto responder explaining you are no longer with them and explain that the email has been forwarded to the proper company rep.

I know your probably pissed how they treated you, but it isn't worth your time. The best revenge will be to become a success without them.

His full name, office number and the old email address submitted to the Jevovah's Witnesses & Scientologists would probably eat up a good portion of his day.. if you don't want to get too involved.

As far as I know, a company email address is the property of the company (hence why they can search the contents at any given time) and old email addresses are typically forwarded to new ones, which may be the case here.

Poaching old contacts is well within his right, but it sounds like he's got an awful way of doing it. To be perfectly honest, if his contact with your old clients is bothering you this much you might want to consider copying your address book before you resign next time. Sales positions usually get walked the same day and it can be beneficial to keep in contact with some clients on the next go-round.
