hello,i have a 355 1997 gts fitted with tubi which i bought from a dealer 1month ago,on the test drive i noted that when driving just as apply throttle between 1000 to 3000 rpm their is what i describe as a misfire of sort its a muted gurgling which at the time i was told that this is because of the tubi exhaust . now i have removed the cats and replaced all 8 plugs(pmr7a ngks) done a compression check(all around 200psi) and if anything appears to be worse 1month on, especially when cold.when reving the engine at say constant 1000 or 2500 rpm the engine will miss abeat and rock slightly but its intermitant.when driving perfomance wise feels fine and when accelleratig feels ok, its just annoying and doesnt feel smooth, hope ive tried to explain as its a weird problem thats difficult to explain.as anyone experience anything simalar or anyone as a guide as to what could be wrong or is this how it should be?

Try running with some fuel injector cleaner in you gas. It could be as simple as a gummed up injector. Had the same problem with 1 of my cars.

You may need a new regulator on the air injection.

I would agree and check you plug wires again. I have seen several posts in the past on a low rpm miss with the 355, in those cases it was either a bad plug or wire.

Suggest you dismantle the ignition (i.e. caps, rotors & leads) & check them all over. Test the leads for resistance & clean up the caps & the rotors & try re-assembling. While you are at it take the plugs back out & clean those up & check the gaps.

I did this on my 328 a couple of months ago & the thing spins up like a top now (not that it was that bad before, but its definitly way better)

Couple of things: be careful with the caps & the rotor arms, don't go at them too hard, just remove the corrosion build up that will surely be in there. They are not cheap to replace (in the UK the caps are maybe £145 each & the rotors are a truly staggering £95 each). Judicious use of a small screwdriver/ modeling knife/600 grit wet & dry is all you should need. Check the caps carefully for hairline cracks.

Also, to test the leads properly, remove all the leads from the caps. When re-assembling cut the last 5-7mm of the lead where it goes into the cap so that you make a nice new & clean connection. They are secured by a spike that screws down into the lead, holds it into the cap & makes the connection to the "post" inside the cap. To remove the coil lead you need to fish the carbon brush out the centre of the cap - the spikey post thing that holds the coil lead is under there. Be careful not to lose either the carbon brush or the spring behind it & make sure that its moving freely when you re-assemble. If its not then try swapping these from one cap to another. That worked for me when one of these things just wouldn't stop sticking.

Don't forget to test the plug lead extenders - these just pull off from the end of each lead. Also, you'll find it a lot easier to remove the dizzy caps if you remove the left rear wheel & wheel arch liner.

When you re-fit the plug wires make sure they are all properly clipped to the cam covers - especially the longer leads. If you don't they will hang down & melt on the exhaust manifolds.

Lastly, before you get an aspirations to "just replace the lot" I think you'll find that it would cost you between £900 & £1000 to do it - so suggest you bear that in mind when removing/testing/cleaning/refitting etc!

    gosh.

    thanks Dave for that clarification.

I initially though "what the hell ? 355s have caps and rotors ? whats
    next , contact breakers ?"

    lmao.

gotta be careful about people posting about things in the tech section,
esp , as though it were true.
