About 4 months ago I installed Hyperflow cats on my 1991 348tb. They have been great with no problems until today. I noticed a change in engine tone and upon further inspection I found out that one had cracked completely in half. I made sure upon installation that it was fitted nicely with nothing being bound or twisted. I bought them direct from Hyperflow and have a call into them to see if any warranty applies or at least to find out if it can be repaired. Thoughts? Has any one welded one of these up after breakage?

    Thanks,
    Brent

That's actually a good place to have a break. Welds up easily and cheaply and won't impact the platinum and other catalysts inside.

Just don't let them weld while it is installed (messes with 348 electrics).

UPDATE: Upon further inspection on the inside of the cat it is now obvious that it broke right at the weld. Those two pieces are welded together when manufactured, but it isn't noticable looking from the outside as it has been nicely chromed. I tried taking a pic, but it comes out too blurry.

    WOW !

    never seen that before

question : why did you go to new cats (Hyper flows) in the first place ?
Were your old cats bad ?

    Just curious.

Hyper-Flow cats are better, more modern technology. The old OEM cats on 348's are baffled, which slows down exhaust flow and emit substantial heat.

The Hyper-Flow cats aren't baffled, so they flow better and emit less heat.

OEM cats = 87% flow rate
    Hyper-flow = 96% flow rate
    Straight pipe=100% flow rate

    Joe,

Everything that No Doubt said plus I think they sound better and deeper with my Tubi exhaust compared to the Tubi and factory cats.

    Brent -

Troy @ Hyperflow is about the most stand-up, honest guy in the Ferrari business. I have no doubt that he'll replace it under warranty (or kill me for posting this message!!) if the welded fix isn't satisfactory.

You bought them directly from Troy, so he'll be able to verify the transaction date. It's all cool. If you have any trouble with it, give me a shout... I speak to HyperFlow basically every day.

I been out of town on business all week, but needed to tell you all about how great Troy at Hyperflow has been. He called me Monday morning and the first thing he said was that he could have a new one to my house next day UPS. Eventhough I had already welded up the cat and it was working fine I decided to take the new one and send back the welded one. Sure enough when I got home last night, it was there. I'll put it on Saturday. All I can say is WOW!! Hyperflow and Troy get my vote for great service, standing behind their product and integrity. Thanks so much!

...and that's exactly why Nick (Nick's Forza Ferrari) and I enjoy working with HyperFlow so much!! Amen. Troy is as cool as they come.
