I am thinking of having a "car party" of sorts and am wondering if anyone would want to do it. I don't have any plans of any kind but am thinking about a Saturday in the fall. I live in Deforest (about 10 minutes from Madison) and we could drive anywhere. I am open to suggestions.

I have buddies with Ferraris, Porsches, Vipers, NSXs, M5s, etc and would be inviting them all. I thought it would be a cool thing to get a bunch of people together to enjoy driving with and hearing other's sportscars.

Let me know if you would be interested and know of others who would be interested..........

I will post this in Chicago's forum too. I really could care less how many people we get (the more the merrier) and can probably count on a good 8 cars alone from my group. I would plan on grilling food too FYI. Maybe on my engine block if our drives are spirited enough!!! If we have a lot of people, I may request someone brings their TR so we have a larger "grilling surface area"!!! :)

That sounds like a great idea, you can tentatively count me and my Boxster in! I'd have to leave by 3pm or so though at the latest. You thinking of a couple hours of driving before lunchtime and having a little "car show" after lunch so everyone can check out everyone elses cars? Sounds like a lot of fun before our beautiful driving weather goes to crap.

I figured you would be a lock.

3 P.M. at the latest?? Trying to cut out early already?? I haven't even given you a date yet, you weasel!!! :)

I hear you on our crap-bag weather. I really would like to get something going before it hits. I just don't feel like I got enough driving enjoyment out of my car yet!!!

This would sound like a great get away weekend from Des Moines. I would certainly be interested to join the group. Please keep me posted on the progress of the plans!

    Yes.....

Cool Z8. Very cool. Would be a very interesting addition to the group!! Your Z8 could make friends with my buddy's M5 that will be there. I know my buddy's M5 has been 160+ MPH before so you might want to take your car up there so it doesn't develop a complex!! ;-)

I don't see many of those around at ALL. Nice.

Nice house too. Didn't know they had them like that in Des Moines!! ;-) I am a huge Nebraska fan (obviously) so I had to pick on Des Moines a bit!!

I might be able to round up two Iowa Ferraris that could meet you in Dubuque and head northeast. We'll see.

    I will keep you informed...........

    That's a good one Musta10000!

Saturday night my wife and I always go out for dinner and do something. I want to make sure she's happy and I don't leave her alone on our weekend especially that the nice ones are running out for the year. Keep us updated as to dates!

I still do not know why you don't visit the Chicago Fchat and FOC crew. Two of our most respected members, (Tifosi12 and FerrariFrank1 ) are always planning fun meets and drives.

PS: How is the response to your suggested party? Any confirmations?

    I don't like Chicago people alright??!!! ;-)

Seriously though, it is my favorite City in the WORLD. Well, maybe that and Rome.

But seriously, I would love to get down there for a drive, but haven't been able to on the days when they do it.

Yes, I have had good response about my party. There is a big Ferrari get together in Madison here in October, so I am just trying to plan around it and a wedding I have in the same month.

Trying to figure out when to have it. I will be having a few types of cars though. ALL types of sportscars. I know the guys from Dubuque would come though and most of the local guys. And then my old crew from Milwaukee with their NSXs, super-modded S2000s, and Ferraris and M5s and M3s, etc.

And some of the local Porsche club would be invited and some of them would show too. Would be a good time. Just have to get it going!!

Oh yeah, and a Boxster and a Z8 from this board. And my buddy and his Viper. He is a lock.

We really would have a neat group of people.

I would love to see several exotics in the same place. Ferraris are the motivation for the modifications that I have made to my car. It is not what you would call an exotic but it does have a mid-engine and I am proud of it anyway. The problem is that my car would be seriously out-classed. (Understatement of the year). I am not sure that it would be welcome in the company of cars/owners that you have listed.

I am not sure. Although, I once owned Fieros. Two of them, in fact at different times. So I am partial to them. Read my profile as proof.

Not to mention, my buddy with the M5 used to own one. His brother used to own one. And he STILL talks about getting another and having V-8 Archie put in the 350. Oh well.

We'll see. High end is high end. And if the car isn't high end, it had better have a damn good story (like my buddy's M5 that has had its speedo hit the 167mph mark AND has won a Concours event). That, to me is a story.

So far, the only domestic that is "in" is my buddy's Viper. And he has an "exotic looking" car with 400+ HP and a burn hole in his seat from leaving a plastic water bottle on it in the sun. Another good story.

If a General Lee shows up, it is IN. Domestic, yes. But would look cool parked on my lawn. Would look really cool flying over my house!!

Based on some of the jokers on this board who will probably be coming to the meet, you would have no problem looking like the class of the joint as far as the owners were concerned.......but I am looking for cars.....

So you got anything worth talking about with this Fiero????

That's a nice looking Fiero Airspeed, I have had 5 from 1991 - 1999. Is that SE an '86 or '87? What mod's have you made to your car?

Huskerbill, honesty mixed with courtesy has such a nice ring to it. Thank you. The car is more of a gateway drug for the more exotics as much as anything. I have heard that a lot of Ferrari owners started with Fieros. I plan to do the same.

I guess I will not be bringing a knife to a gunfight. It has no story. Later on, after my LS1 V8 swap is done I may see how it goes. Until then I guess it has no place where others in attendance have more money in their tires than I have in the entire car. It would still be fun to see everyone’s cars though.

88MONDIAL, it was dead and quite literally put out to pasture for over a year. I have brought it back to the street and have tried to make it the way it should have been from the beginning. This is a simple one-page site that lists everything that I have done.
    Link to Airspeed’s car.

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Airspeed, You have listed that it is a 4 cylinder on your site. The SE of 86 & 87 has 6 cylinders. What's the discrepency? Did someone put a 4 banger in there over the years or something? What kind of car would you like to own someday? For a little more than the price of that V8 project (which I think is dangerously too much for that car) you could get a nice Porsche 944/turbo. You are good at fixing things up, you could redo a Porsche and work your way up to a Ferrari 308 or something. Just my .02.

They actually did make a few 4-banger 87 SEs. I was just unlucky enough to end up with one but the price is right and I would not keep any stock engine/transmission anyway.

As far as the Porsche or 308 goes, that is a good idea. I would probably choose the Porsche for now because the 308 is too close in layout to what I already have. When I get a Ferrari it will be a 348 or newer but I really like a 360s.

If you can't dream it you can't have it.

I would go with a Porsche first. In fact, you could do what I did and get a 911 as your first entry-level "exotic" (to the average Joe at least). I got mine for $12k and it was my first car after graduating (well after my Grand Am broke down on the freeway two weeks into my first job!!).

The 911s are bulletproof if you go with a LATE 70s to LATE 80s one. The 3.2 and the 3.0 would do you well. They are BULLETPROOF. I owned two 911s now too. Loved them.

Anyway, you said your car doesn't have a story?? EVERY car has a story. And they are ALL cool stories if the teller is an enthusiast.

Also, when you DO get a Ferrari someday, get a 308 or 328 to start. They may look SIMILAR to your car but, trust me, they are a world apart. Not to mention you won't have to do "engine out" maintenance!! Another good "entry" into another world.

Don't know how far you plan to drive, but the James Dean festival and car show is in IN this weekend. You can all pit at the ranch in Yorktown and belly up to the bar in our saloon. Plenty of parking for all. Probably out of your range though.

Yeah, it is a little far for me. 5 hours. Not to mention my wife was out of town all week on business and would KILL me if I said I was going to a car show this whole weekend.

Not to mention I had aeration, edging, and overseeding to do on my lawn. And fix two brown patches I killed with overfertilization a few weekends ago!! Dangit!!

YIKES!!! Paul was telling me their house is SICK.

20 cars?? From where?? Paul and Stan will be coming up from Iowa, I would think. Then the guys from Neenah. Who else?? What woodwork are these cars coming out of??

There are 5 Ferraris in Madison as far as I know. And I have seen ALL of them.

My 328 (quite possibly the FINEST example of a black 328 in all of Madison!!)
    Bob's 355 Berlinetta (AWESOME CAR)
    Joel and Leigh's stunner
A white Mondial (Seen it in Middleton and can't remember the owners name)
Rex's red 360 in Fitchburg (very nice)

I know Rex has a friend in Madison who has a Gallardo.

Also, is this open to ALL Ferrari members?? Joel and Leigh had invited me up at the Brian Redman when I met them. I should probably drop them a line to let them know I am coming myself.

Yep. I will probably be putting out the word in the next two weeks. I am going to be THOROUGHLY embarrassed of my house now, though, after hearing about the house that this Oct Ferrari drive will be held at. Oh well. Hey, I am only 29 and shouldn't get too bent out of shape right??

My deal will probably not as exquisite as this one coming up. Maybe some good driving, good pictures, movies, etc and some good food on the grill. Something like that. I just though it would be best if we do it later in the year, ya know. I wouldn't want to run my car in hot weather and I thought some cool, crisp fall, air would make our cars happy!!

If, for SOME reason, this thing doesn't go off due to a HUGE change in the weather (like early snow/salty roads). I am in the process of organizing a HUGE spring cruise starting in Madison. I am working towards it being held at my mechanic's shop which always has Lambos, Viper racecars, Shelby's, Ferraris, Rolls' Panteras, etc on hand. This would be an all-day, outdoor event with a tent and everything.
