    Hello people,

I have an odd question here, I have a customer that has an 87 Testarossa and wants to add power steering to it, I know it sounds crazy but he wants if cause he finds his car hard to turn when putting it away in his garage. Has anyone ever done this or thought about doing it? Please any kind of info will be greatly appreciated. O by the way I am located in Spain. Thanks for the input guys. You can also reply to my e-mail address: [email protected]

Tell the guy to get a civic... ********...
If he really wants this, you need to build a bracket so that a belt can drive the pump. Maby something from another Ferrari can be fitted?

I agree with you, he also has a 3000GT VR4 and I told him to use that as his power steering car and leave the Testarossa as it is but he still wants it. I was thinking some sort of electric pump rather than a pump that is engine driven all the way to the back. Any input on this? Please I need help with this one.

    Thanks,

It's easy to add electric power steering to the older F-cars...just not cheap. You'll need to order the entire electric steering linkage/rack for the Honda S2000 (or NSX, take your pick). Remove the OEM Ferrari steering linkage/rack. Adjust the Honda unit to fit (will require welding and cutting), then install the Honda unit from the Borla steering wheel down to the front wheels.

    Here's how it works: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Technical/eps.htm

    It's a lousy idea.

However, if he really wants it, the Acura NSX had a nifty electic power steering rack that might be worth looking at.

Definitely. Nice unit on the NSX and Honda S2000.

The cheap way to go would be to use the electro-hydraulic unit from an old Fiero. Electric pump for the hydro-pressure, so no belts or other additions to the engine.

    Hey guys,

Thank you very much for the input, I will definetly look into the NSX/S2000 setup. Sounds easy enough to do, I still think it is a shame to modify a Testarossa in that sense but what can I do. I have another question, where can I find aftermarket wheels for this car, he also wants to save the originals and install some aftermarket ones. Any input on that?

    Yours Truly,

You might want to also look at the Toyota Celica set up. And before all of you guys start harping on about "nobody puts power steering in a Ferrari", the Celica set up was used on the Risi 333SP when it won it's class at Le Mans...

There was a write up in either Octane or Classic and sportscar last month on an aftermarket electric power steering setup

It is outrageous treating a lovely car like that IMO he is just going to ruin the car.
Will his next project be F1 gear box so he doesn't have tolerate the heavy clutch?

Ok the people who do the kits are, Jack Night Developements.

    www.jackknight.com

They don't have the power steering setup on their site yet, however if you give them a call (+44(0)1483764326)/ e-mail they'll send on the details, its also in the september issue of Octane on page 36

    according to Octane

at 5kg and 280x230x140mm its light and small enough to splice into the steering colum and can be programmed to give appropriate weighting and response
