    Hi 348 Brotherhood!

Well, this weekend is the weekend to spend doing my first detailing job on the new car :)

I am reading Griot's Garage Detailers Handbook and was reading about clearcoat vs single stage paints. They mentioned testing an area with polish and seeing if a cotton cloth picks up the paint color. If it does, they indicate it is a single stage paint. I have never wax/detailed my car but have noticed some areas seem to produce a red color on cloths I used to wash the car. Not all the time. My question is do 91 348's have a clearcoat and if so, anyone know why I have noticed some red coloring?

    Thanks!
    -chris

the 348 and 355 are painted than polished they have no vernish, that is the reason why you get color on clothes when you polish it. But dont do it too often because under the red it is white ! Dut their is enought painting on it to be polished for years and years...but dont use a machine to do it, they do it when repainted or when new because they know that there is a lot of product on it and could polish safety.

Mine's Giallo and I always get some residue coming away on the cloth when I polish, it's most definitely not clearcoated.

I'm sure all the metallic options will be clearcoated though, and like many of the other Euro manufacturers possibly even black may be (others comment?).

My '91 TR with Rosso Corsa paint color is NOT clear coated. Be very careful with any kind of thinner or solvent. Definately test someplace that isn't going to be noticeable. Jim

As far as I know, Ferrari paint back then was not clearcoated.

If that is incorrect, I can say for sure that my Rosso Corsa 1992 348 is not clearcoated.
