Hi guys, the OM says the fuel filter should be replaced every 30K miles, and of course, that means every five years if not driving that many miles, but do people really wait five years? I can't even find the filter listed on part supplier websites except with 30K kit. I find that hard to believe. The OM says the same interval for plugs...you have to be kidding me. I change them every year. Fuel filter every 5 years or 30K miles???

If you put a new oil filter on your car and then store it for 5 years, are you going to put a new oil filter on the car when you bring it out of storage?

Fuel filters don't really degrade over time. They degrade based on how much dirty fuel they have cleaned. So if you don't drive your car at all, you should never have to change the fuel filter. I usually change my fuel filters every 15k or so.

Same with spark plugs, I don't change them every year. I inspect them every year and change them when required. I had a set of Splitfire spark plugs in my Jeep for over 10 years.

I do the same as Pete. My 308 just turned 38K miles. Champion Plugs that were in it when I bought it at 22K miles are still good, whan I ck them each spring. At most have tweaked the gap on a couple where it was a getting oversize. Have had a new set sitting on the shelf. Will probably put them in when I do my 5-year major.

I've had lots more trouble with plug extenders arcing thru. Have replaced 4 or 5 of them.

Since fuel filter's age was unknown, I changed out a couple of years ago,
turns out old filter was dated 1996 with 21K miles. So probably was still good. However, the fuel accumulator had failed, & I was in there, the filter's a $15 item from AutoZone.
