Carbon, no, John and I bought F40's at the same time, I bought my in Indianna, John bought his from Newport Autosport.

John traded the F40 for the GTO. As you know he sold the 288 and bought a Stradale.

Absolutely beatuiful. The F40 just looks right at home in the garage. Although, it looks better out on the road of course.

Congratulations to the both of you! I've owned 6 Ferraris over the past 8 years, and the F40 is orders of magnitude above the rest in pure driver satisfaction. Drive it like you stole it!

WOW!!! very nice. I am too in love with the Esprit since the James Bond time. Bought one brand new in 1993 since I finished schooling from the US. I still have it and enjoy it weekly. Modifying is so easy and cheap compare to other exotics. Cost nearly nothing to maintain. I still don't understand why all the critics underrate it. All they say is small interior space, built quality, engine, not enough cylinders, all which I found to be none sense. I found it very reliable and probably the most stable handling car at top speed, rock stable at 280km/h. Anyway, I am glad even though you got one of the top best Ferrari you still appreciate the Esprit...

Congrats to both of you. 2 F40's with less than 2000 Miles combined??? Damn, I hope you guys can fix that ;)

RUFMD, I remember chatting a LONG while ago on an old thread. Were you not from Canada at one point? I could be wrong.

Nonetheless, enjoy the car in good health.

    Vasco.

John's F40 always had a strange feel about it, it was supposed to be low miles, but it had been repainted inside and out, including all the black areas.

The unfortuneate part was the red was not the correct shade of red, way too dark.

I think you guys had a 288GTO that had been in a fire at the same time John bought the F40..

We always figured it was a burn car, do you remember any details?

We took that F-40 in on trade. I never got to really drive John's car.
I did have 3 GTOs come through the Dealership. I think one did have a story something like that. Not exactly burned but some story I remember?????

I think this thread is getting confusing with 3 separate F40's being discussed, one of which may have a questionable past. To clarify, this is not the F40 that WCH or myself have recently acquired but some remote F40 by a 3rd party.

For someone who reads the thread title and goes to the last post discussing suspect F40's, this may be potentially misleading....

    No worries...

Yours is 92336, Will's is another one and the ex-John Karr F40 is 93627 - which is alleged to be the last US F40...

    93627
In 1993, it was offered in the LA Times (24 Oct 1993) by Ferrari Beverly Hills as the last U.S. car.

In 2000, it was offered by Symbolic. Advertised as red with red seats. Very clean, no stories car. Serviced with new cam belts done 5/18/00 at 3,400 miles. At that time, it had 3,544 miles. (FML 2523).

Symbolic was still offering it in 2001. (FML 2601).

By Spring, it had 3,600 miles on it; still offered by Symbolic. (FML 2605).

In June 2001, it was offered by Newport Autosport. Red with red interior. 3,903 miles. As per the ad: "This Magnificent automobile was first sold in 1993 & stored in a temperature-controlled warehouse as part of a fine collection. One of the finest examples on the Market today for the discriminating buyer." (FML 2612). It was offered again in January 2002. (FML 2701).

In 2001, it was reportedly owned by John Karr.

In August 2004, it was offered at Christie's Auction in Monterey. Lot no. 20.

Just wanted to say congrats on the F40 cars. When I was coming out of high school in 90,my art teacher kept a huge poster of the F40 on the wall.I new what it was and what it was about and I would stare at it all day.At that time it was a mystical beat of machine that I thought I would never see.Now that time has passed I still look at it in the same light.Luckily for me I have seen a few and still admire it as the super car of its day.My art teacher ended up giving me the poster and hopefully one day I will get the car, well mayby a test track lap in the car.Good luck.

The 288GTO I do not believe was burned, just had smoke damage and that is why John passed on the 288.

The F40 was very nice, but had been repainted, inside and out. It seemed unusual that a 3,900 mile car would have been repainted, it was even stranger since it not the correct shade.

It was assumed that perhaps it was part of the collection that housed the 288 and perhaps it also sustained smoke damage.

Nice car, but one that had been repainted.....

Was told (by someone who was there) that FNA repainted an F40 or two pre-delivery due to quality concerns, Chris. If so, and car showed no signs of damage repair, perhaps John's was one of these?
