    Let me simplify this thread:

Corollas are better cars than NSX's are better cars than Ferrari.

Ferrari is more fun than NSX is more fun than Corollas.

Buy the NSX. Great cars but sadly underrated. You can take the plunge into Ferrari-hood when you're ready. You're not, IMO..otherwise you'd have made the decision already.

With a few grand down as a deposit, the rest on the drip,a lot of people(esp NSX owners)can afford to get into Ferrari ownership,it's the maintenance and servicing costs that put them off,not the initial cost of the car.

In some cases probably true, but not in my case.I prefer the looks of the 348(inc the rear lights, sad maybe),the interior,I'm happy with it in every way.
    So,No I won't be changing the 348 for a 355 in the future.

Owners manuals and real world numbers are sometimes two different things.
    ..................................

As a Ferrari owner, I really think it's sad that so many of you are knocking the NSX, or any other car for that matter, just because it lacks a prancing horse logo on it.
It's obvious that many of the negative comments are coming from people that have not driven either car, or from snobs rather than true enthusiasts.
If I were in the market, I sure wouldn't base my car buying decision on the comments of some ass-clowns I didn't know.
I would research each car I was interested in, and they test drive each model to see if I really liked it.

For the longest time I wanted a Countach, until I test drove a couple.

    QUOTE]
I don't think anyone has knocked the NSX,from what I have read, everyone, myself included has said that the NSX is a great car.
But owning and running a Ferrari is a very different experience to the NSX.[/QUOTE]

What, you mean the stupid little comments like...
"If you have to ask then buy the NSX"

Owning and running a Ferrari is a very different experience to the NSX...
    In what way?

I guess some of you have never priced parts for a NSX.

What argument are you trying to make???

That the NSX is expensive to maintain as a Ferrari??
Would you be proud of that if it were so the case?

I hate that Ferrari maintenance and parts are so expensive, but you have two choices....own the car and pay the maintenance costs or don't own the car...
I choose to own the car and pay the maintenance and ***** about it...

There is no argument about maintenance costs of NSX's and Ferrari's....It is a stastical fact that the Ferrari, ON AVERAGE, has a higher maintenance cost per year then the NSX...Sure they are NSX owners out there that have paid more in maintenance then a Ferrari owner, but this is not the norm.

With that said, I love the NSX....some of the bodykits I have seen for them are incredible. I wish it was as acceptable to tune Ferrari's like it is with NSX's...but to each his own.

Maintenance costs are not bad for either car.
And are not that far from any car for that matter.
    Yearly maintenance is yearly maintenance.

    It's when something breaks.
The prices for parts are expensive for either car.
But then again have you priced parts for a Lexus or a Toyota lately?

You don't have to tell me...I have a Range Rover and a BMW....Neither parts are cheap...but they pale in comparison to Ferrari components...

And correct me if I am wrong, but the NSX doesnt require a $5-7K maintenance bill every 30k miles...in addition to everything that could go wrong or other normal maintenance....

I agree with you on oil changes, brake pads, coolant flushes, fluid changes... they are all the same....but the timing belt on the 348 is what sets it way apart from other vehicles...

And when I was going to buy an NSX, I did some deep research into maintenance costs...and they actually were not bad..barring a major failure. Major failures with Ferrai are in considered 'catastrophic' with another vehicle.

I own a Range Rover and BMW as well, and yes they are proud of their parts.

If you are paying $5-7k every 30k miles well that's your business.
My service manual does not list a belt change every 30k miles.
And when I do change my belts and tensioner bearings, I do it myself.
How much does a belt and a couple of bearings cost?
About the same for any vehicle.

    Not for me.
Few months ago I had a chance to buy a well maintained 355 spydre. A frind of mine is desperate for my 348. I only have to pay extra 3K, which I am capable of. The night before selling it, I chaged my mind. I realized I love my 348 much more than 355, even a spyder. I really do not care about other people said about how bad 348 is, that is your right. All I know is my 348 is the best car, even as an art, I have ever owned. That's it.

Nope, the 30k mile service is a myth started by people that have never owned a Ferrari, and has been perpetuated over the years.

Look at your service manual and tell me when your belts should be changed.
I don't have a manual in front of me, but I'm guessing it's more like belt change at 60km and 120km, no?

Unfortunately no. My euro book says 40k and 80k. Kilometers, thats around 25k miles. It also says every 24 months regardless of mileage.

The US spec manuals say something more like 5 years IIRC. There are already loads of threads about when it actually needs to be done. In reality it costs £900GB (inc tax) over the cost of the annual service every 3-5 years depending on how you use the car. Not too big a deal for most owners.

Oh c'mon guys. We're all enthusiasts here, aren't we? All of us owns more than a handful of cars before. I've spent almost US$20K just on recovering a sick 348. It's painful & maybe stupid. We have seen some DIYers who can do a major for a fraction from dealer's fees. End of the day, we wouldn't want a blown engine. It's a preventive measure. I remember there is a 348 owner here who owns one of the earliest example in US from day one & it has almost zero problems because he uses & takes care of it. So, go out now & drive your cars. So what if it's a NSX or 348. They're machines made by men from different cultures, both passionate, both perfectionists, both temperamental but same vision. A vision for people like us who can own and share their pride, go enjoy them!

I have had my 348 for 15 years (as well as Mondial t, TR, 308, F40), and with a few choice mods is really an amazing car.

I have spent some time in NSX's (including a supercharged one), and they are very nice cars. I remember driving an original one when they first came out and thought............."The Japenese got it right...........the first time"! But as good as it was, it wasn't special, and the Ferrari driving experience was better. It is still a better experience today. The Honda is very benign, which is good for most people. The 348 is a car that must be driven! and driven well to get the most out of it.

This is a Ferrari site and I'm sure that an NSX site would slam the 348. Oh well, to each his own..........I choose Ferrari...........but I think there is a Gallardo in my future!
