Spotted near my home this afternoon while I was out for a spin in my loaner. (Body shop repairs to the Land Rover!). In red and looked really well. I presume that the 52 plate comes from late registration for one reason or another. Made me scratch my head a little at the time though!

I think there was a 52 plate 355 for sale in Top Marqueeeee recently. If it's that one, then it was imported from Northern Ireland and was given a 52 plate. Apparently..... ;)

They wouldn't do that, they would give it an age related plate.

Only two ways for a 355 to get a 52 plate IMO

    1) Its a fake and the donor car is a 2002.

    2) It sat unregistered at a dealer or something for 3 years. But not sure if it would then get a 52 or one closer to the production date.

More likely to be sultanas in Budgens!
The Sultan rarely buys standard and certainly wouldn't buy an "ordinary" 355!;)

The Sultan would have had the top painted, thats an early 96/97 car IMO

So no idea how it has that reg it must have been an import mistake.

Isn't it dependent on when the car was first road registered? So if it was never registered anywhere until 2002...?

I think you still get an age related plate on imports based on when it was road registered in the country of origin...?

Steve - you're right it was at Gamston. The owner was one of the pilots; he took me up in one of the planes.

Lots of speculation as to how it got the 52 plate - here's the truth: The owner told me it was imported from NI as already suggested here. It was given the 52 reg by the DVLA, who insisted it was the right thing to do. He decided to let it go since they were insisting, although he knew it should have had an age related plate.

The owner has a 430 on order (delivery very soon I think) so that's why it is for sale.

    Ric.

can't remember the guys name, Angelboy will know but he was one of the pilots on the Gamston and he took me up in the plane. Apparently he brought the car over from Ireland in 2002 and the DVLA insisted on issuing it with a 52 plate although he argued the toss and wanted a correct age related plate. Its a 96 (i think,) and he only wanted about £45k for it, it looked a nice car for the money
