I was using the 246/348 as an example to show that over a ten year period an old Ferrari can become more valuable than a more modern superior Ferrari. I dont believe this will happen with the 308/360 in the next ten years, but I do know 360s will continue to depreciate and nice 308s will appreciate over the next ten years, leaving a not so significant price gap between the two. Also, I dont believe the 360 will ever become $25,000 car.
At the rate 308's are being wrecked, burned, and altered, the actual numbers remaining are no where near the numbers that were produced. TRutlands is in the buisness of selling used parts, and most of those are 308's, and hes been busy doing it for many years. When I visited the place back in 2001, there was a pile of engine blocks with holes through the side, at leat a dozen blocks. Those all came from cars he bought to cut up. They are off the road permanently. Norwoods has done the same, as has Butch Hooper, McCann, and countless others. Heck, if I could afford it right now, I'd buy a parts car or two myself just to have the stuff. Oops, two more burned 308's just on Ebay....Sold. But earlier someone said the 308 will never exceed the value of the newer cars, like the 348, 355, 360, etc. I would argue, that the 308, and the 288/F40, are the last cars built under the leadership of Mr. Ferrari, and as such will at some point command a higher value. It has nothing to do with superior technology, it has everything to do with emotion and availability. That is why the muscle cars are riding high right now, and they truly were some of the non-technical machines ever produced. And if you really believe superior technology will win out, look at the 250 GTO. That car is worth about 40 times a 360. I don't know if the 360 will ever be $25,000, but then I never thought 308's would drop below $40, then $30, then $20. And who ever would have thought a Dodge Challenger would sell for over $100k, or better yet, over a $million. Compared to a 308, a Dodge is nothing, yet the market says otherwise.
