You know, I don't think we're going to get to the bottom of this one - its all just too subjective! I agree that the 512TR is going to be hard to upgrade from, but my only point is that if you're going away from Ferrari and towards Lamborghini, then you might as well go up a generation in technology. After all, the Diablo and 512TR were considered competitors in the '90s, so going for a Diablo is basically a step sideways. And no dear reader, you don't have to agree with what I'm saying. But if you do want a step up (yes okay, in some people's eyes only) then you should at least try out the Murcielago. I'm not quite sure how much 'wow' factor Dan's dad is looking for but if he needs more than a Murcielago, well maybe he should get a pink suit or something. :)

To William H: I can only guess you're a body builder if you think the 512TRs clutch and in particular the doors are not heavy. I'm not complaining when I say that they are heavy, I'm just pointing out that in my opinion they are a bit butch - either that or mine need lubricating (no double meanings intended by the way). And certainly when compared to a strut-powered door lifting mechanism such as the Murcielagos. Which also has a light clutch feel by the way.

To Ken: Yes I did own a Miura for 8 years. Chassis number 3276 to be exact. I decided to sell my car because (despite its external beauty) I spent more time underneath it than in it - if you know what I mean. It was just too fragile to take for long trips. I mean, the slightest hiccup could leave you stranded with no spares around for miles and even if you could find the part you needed, it could take up to a year to get it - ask me how I know. At least you can see that I drove the beast and not just turned it into a garage queen. If its any consolation though, it was sold to an enthousiastic collector and driver who I hope will look after it.

Either way Dan, I reckon you and your dad should just enjoy the looking as much as the final choice. Take our words of advice in this forum as very biased and very opinionated - then you can write back and tell us you chose an M5 or some such car. Above all, enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Just tell your dad to give you an early Diablo and for him to get whatever he wants.
