hi all,, the rear cover of the transmission,, the one you can see when looking at rear of car underneath,,, it has a plastic (glassfibre or similar) cover,,, sits between the rear of the gearbox and the exhaust,,, I want to remove this and re-paint it.... there are two bolts at the bottom but cant see any others,,, anyone removed this before...??? thanks scott..
If you are speaking of the heat sheild behined the muffler, you must remove the rear bumper to get at the other 2 bolts..
I wonder if it is the heatshield u r talking about? It protects the bumper from the muffler heat. Its silver reflective material & tears easily if not removed correctly. I don't think u would want to paint that.
no its not the heat shield between the bumper and the exhaust box,, its the shield between the exhaust box and the rear of the gearbox,(clutch housing) ,, you can buy them in carbon fibre,,, mine has looks like it has been painted before and the paint is flaking,,, you can see the alloy ferrari badge which is on the clutch housing and this pastic bit bolts over it,,,, cheers scott
Sounds like the clutch cover. I scrubed my clutch cover for about an hour to get it to shine. I believe the whole thing is metal including the circle with the Prancing Horse on it. I should have took it off to buff it. It would have been alot easier.
You might be talking about the Challenge car heat shield/air scoop for the clutch asembly. I have seen a few street cars fitted with them.
I have seen what you are talking about on only a handful of 355s, but I was never sure what it was and/or what is the purpose. Would you post a picture? Thanks, David
hi guys,,, got a picy,, hope this helps,, but thought these were on all cars,,, the cover is the plastic bit you can see on either side of the alloy clutch housing,,,, you can see the bottom two bolts,, but there must be others that I cannot see,,,,, its been painted before,, but needs cleaning as does the clutch cover itself... cheers scott.. I removed mine and put the cover from a Challenge car on it because it has air scoops. Most people remove them and leave them off. You really need to remove the muffler to get the top two nuts off.
That is the air duct/heat insulator that comes on the 355 challenge cars. there are 4 13mm nuts that attach it to the clutch housing. Two that you see in the pic and two up in the middle of duct. It is made of low quality fiberglass. One of the only Challenge parts I know of that appears in the road car parts manual too. Not sure if it was on some road cars out of the factory or what. But it was part of the challenge cars. Supposeably to cool the rear bearing in the housing. Since my car has the race exhaust, the upper nuts are easy to get to. If you look up under the car you should be able to see them and tell then if you can get to them without removing the muffler/silencer. hope this helps. Regards, Vern
