Glad to hear your ok and no major problems with your car. And while $2k may not be pocket change it sure beats a lot of other things that could've happened.

Sorry to hear about your fire, glad that you escaped unscathed and the damage to the car was minimal.

In my opinion the location of the "drip hole" in the intake is a design flaw. The first (or was it the second) year that we were running 360's in the Challenge Series there were two seperate fires during refueling at the endurance race in Homestead.

Both times, the cause was similar to your accident. Fuel drippped out around the edge of the fuel filler either while fuel was running into the tank or when the re-fueling tank was removed. Fuel ran along the body work and down into the air intake, dripped through the weep hole and made contact with the red hot brakes. Then WOOOOSH.

After the second time, they called the race.

Sorry to hear about the damage, I once failed to tighten a 911 gas cap and enough gas spilled out to make the car loose - very lucky not to have had a fire.

On the legal issue - I'm with Tiara. At the track, you sign all the waivers and disclaimers and assume the risk. If you can't accept that, find another hobby. You are responsible for the safety of your car, whether your crew makes an error, or some poor track worker. My 2 cents.

 

Actually, for reasons that should be obvious, the last thing Ric should be doing is seeking legal advice in a public forum.
