You are wrong. OT discussions happened in pure Ferrari forums and we created the OT forums to at least contain them. The decision is that of the community and bottom up, not top down. I'm not undecided, I didn't start this thread, it is working much better with P&R in the subscribed section.
Dale & Rob: Don't pick on me for this. If you recall, someone else posted this in P&R and I just thought it'd make sense for a general poll. If you note, I've stayed out of the argument. Art
Thanks for clarification--makes more sense, now. I misunderstood the alternate concept of this site. Perhaps the question to be asked is contained in your above quote, i.e., 'which is the focus of this site?' Then again, maybe this question has already been discussed and resolved...? Keith
Ferrari is what has, is, and will bring us here. Some of us just stay longer to give Art a hard time.
I'm late to this discussion, but thought I would add, the idea of a politics section populated almost entirely by Ferrari owners is quite humorous to me. Kinda like a Rolex club getting together and discussing low income housing or some such. Are you really getting the full picture? I voted yes on this poll, but if it never comes back, for the general sports car fan (non F-car owner), there is some good discussion over at the Corvette forum.
You know we wouldn't even be having this discussion if George Bush and his Supreme Court cronies hadn't stolen the 2000 election! (JUST KIDDING FOLKS!) I voted yes even though I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. I did enjoy the excursions into political topics of the day as a respite from the clutter of "What should I buy for my first Ferrari?", "How do you like my mullet?", "I want you to think that I have a Ferrari but I really don't" and "What do you do for a living?" threads. I never believed that $15 separated the trolls from the insightful, so I would not have expected that things would improve much in subscribed. Well maybe there would be fewer posts about what a great country Cuba is! Personally I don't feel that the worst flame wars in P&R were any worse than some of the shenanigans that goes on in Other Off Topic or the 0846 thread and so don't really get the point of the move as a way to "clean up" FChat. Remember the famous non-P&R flame war conducted between a couple of subscribers, one who is now a consultant, just over a year ago? Now THAT was embarrassing! Moving P&R just means that we now have two tiers of sophomoric discussions interspersed with the meaningful content instead of one. Without exception every FChatter that I have met so far has been a person that I have really enjoyed getting to know, not only about their passion for Ferraris, but about other things that interest them. Ferrari owners and enthusiasts tend to be interesting and adventurous people that are fun to know. I like the concept of FChat as a community of Ferrari enthusiasts who also sometimes have something else going on in their heads and lives to discuss that is of interest to the rest of us. Put P&R back on the general site and make sure that the few miscreants know that they are likely to be banned for unsociable behavior. Just MHO John
