308 distributor part in Italian...

I was advised by the mechanic after a much improvment of renewing a rotor and distributor cap, that changing the following part in the ignition for early single distributor model will also make a big different in performance as well..... part number 105593 describsion " Ruota di Scorta 3 1/4Bx 18" ". What is its describsion in English? Will it make a different assuming mine particular part never been changed since 1976...

 

I think a "ruota di scorta" is a spare tire.......

 

It's in the distributor...electrical part

 

Sorry, but it's a space saver spare tire. 18" in diameter, by 3 1/4" wide.

Punch up that part number on Daniel/Ricambi's website in the quick search box. It comes up as "wheel/spare".

jeff is right. Ruota di scorta is the italian translation of Spare Tire. Then, if electrics is involved, for sure it is not a ruota di scorta. It could be "Rotor", "Rotore" in italian.

It's the number 3. In the picture, it's for a twin distributors but mine is a single distributor. I don't think its a Distributer Impulse Unit...

#3 appears to be a set of contact breaker points, which would be "ruttore" in Italian. Your points have never been changed since 1976????

 

Is there a cover plate over your distributor (as in over the top of it so you can almost not see it when the bonnet is up) ?

I ask b/c if you do, it's an electronic distributor and does not require points. A lot of Euro cars with single distributors were electronic.

 

True. Marelli SM805A's were the single dizzy, electronic units. They use a magnetic pick-up instead of points (P/N: 95300027).

I was just looking through Dennis McCann's catalogue for other dizzy stuff (advance mechanism parts) and noticed these pick-ups in his list, but because I wasn't interested in these items, I didn't notice if it's in stock, or at what price if they were.

I don't see a need to replace these. They're solid state construction so they don't wear out - they either work, or they fail and then the engine won't run.

 

My mistake... the part actually was 95300027 "Bobinetta completa di filo e squadretta" which should be called Distributer Impulse Unit by superformance.co.uk. Yea, 2 of those and my 308 is 0to60 in 5.9s.....
