I emailed Steve White FCA MAR to try to clarify the issue of newer cars registering for this event. I would like to go but I agree it would be nice for all the Ferraris to be together.

    Barry,

I've attached a revised announcement. Hopefully, it's clearer than the earlier one.

The car show is intended for cars 25 years and older. (After all, it is an antique car show.) I went to the committee and got them to accept Ferraris 15 years and older as show cars.

Since we are also renting the social hall for a FCA-MAR chili potluck party right after the show, I also got them to give us special parking inside the show field gate for Ferraris less than 15 years. This parking is nearby, but not right on the show car field. To get inside the gate, you'll have to pre-register and pay the same way show cars do (except show car entries have the option of paying at the gate). Note that cars inside the gate are asked to stay for the length of the show.

Of course, there is always the public parking outside the gate, but certainly within easy walking distance. If you find the $15 exhorbitant, I'd suggest you do that. So, you have to decide whether you want to participate or not. You can participate by:

    1. Merely come to the show to see the cars, park in public parking, and leave when you wish. There is no charge and you don't even need a Ferrari for this.

    Or,

    2. Come to the show and park in special parking (Ferraris 15 years and less, only) by paying $15 in advance AND participate in the potluck chili party by paying $10/person and bringing a dish (food). The $10/person must be sent to me in advance.

Actually, one other person (probably in your chat group) did call, but didn't like the answers he was given. You probably said it best: "Only the older cars are eligible for antique awards." Makes sense to me. It is an antique and classic car show.

Let me know if you need more info.

    Steve

    Subject: Rockville Car Show

    Hi Steve,

I am a new FCA MAR member and am interested in the Rockville Show. I downloaded the application form and after reading it, I am a bit confused. It sounds like the Ferraris will not be together, but separated by: (1) 15 years and older and (2) newer cars. Only the older ones are eligible for the antique awards, and will park with the other antiques. Newer cars (I have a 1995 F355 Spider) will have a place to park but not with the older ones. Do I need to send in $15 just to get a different parking space? It seems strange to me. Is the parking space someplace special? What is the arrangement that FCA MAR made? Several others on Ferrari Chat seem to have the same questions, but no one seems to have checked with you.

Let me know and I will let the others know.

    FERRARIS AT ROCKVILLE CAR SHOW
    Saturday, October 15, 2005
Rockville Civic Center Mansion, Rockville, MD

Ferraris and Potluck Chili Party are back at the Rockville Car Show!!!

Join the fun of showing your Ferrari in a setting with over 400 fine vintage cars at one of the area’s premier car shows. You can bring your Ferrari regardless of its age. After the show, the Ferrari Club will have a Potluck Chili Party at the social hall next to the show field.

    CAR SHOW:
Ferraris 15 years old or older are eligible for display on the car show field. (All other marques must be 25 years or older.) Either pre-register with the City of Rockville or pay the registration fee at the gate. The fee was raised to $15 after September 16.

Ferraris less than 15 years old may park in a special (Ferrari only) parking area adjacent to the car show field, IF the owner is attending the Potluck Chili Party. To park your newer Ferrari here, you must pre-register in the same manner specified for a show car and pay the $15 registration fee.

For those who desire free parking or for those not bringing a show car, there is a large public lot adjacent to the car show facility. Entry to the show is free for those not displaying a car or parking in the special lot.

Procedure to Pre-Register a Show Car or for Special Ferrari Parking
    Go to www.rockvillemd.gov
Click on “calendar” and then click on “Rockville Special Events”
Scroll down to and click on “Antique and Classic Car Show”
Scroll down to and click on “Registration Form”
Print both pages of the two-page form and follow the instructions on the form!
Make payment to the City of Rockville

IMPORTANT: THE GATED SHOW FIELD AND SPECIAL PARKING AREA OPENS AT 8:30 A.M. AND NO CARS CAN ENTER AFTER 11 A.M.

    POTLUCK CHILI PARTY:
At about 3:00 PM, the Chili Party begins in the social hall near the car show field. To attend the party, please RSVP to Steve White by October 10. Cost is $10 per person, plus a pot of chili or a side dish which will go well with chili. (You may attend the Chili Party even if you do not attend the car show. If you arrive after 11:00 AM, you must park in the public lot outside the gated area.) Send your check payable to FCA-MAR to

I don't think we can stay all day to do the registration/Chili party thing. Have an afternoon soccer game to do. Still considering going early to see the car show, but not sure if I want to park the Ferrari in general parking....I guess I could bring the daily driver, but that isn't as fun.

I'm running into the same problem.... I'm might bag this event even though it's literally down the street from me. I drove into the property last weekend to checkout the parking. If I'm correct where they plan on putting the '90+ Fcars, I don't see why they are charging and making you stay until the end. I definitely can't do the Chili thing.... Still thinking this through.

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and one of his wishes is to drive a Ferrari. I truly can't afford to rent one for a day. Is there anyone that is willing to show him around their car and maybe go for a short drive? This may sound crazy, but I don't know anyone with a Ferrari. I thought that it would be worth a try to ask.

I am sure there are plenty of us willing to take him for an exciting ride, but doubt you will find someone to just throw him the keys....

So if we make it to the Classic, would anyone be willing to take him for a ride or show him their car. The experience I'm actually looking for is available in England but not here. You can look at it at the following website to see what it is all about http://www.daystoamaze.co.uk/pages/product356.tpl
Maybe a couple of you want to get together to do something like this in the US. It could possibly further finance your hobby.

I hardly think 109british pounds would cut it. wouldn't even cover one burned up tire! Rentals in the US go for $1200 a day , and no insurance I know of covers this usage for their cars....

    Darron,
    Nice job on DK's car!
The weather this weekend is supposed to be nice, agree good day for a ride.

The antique show in Rockville sounds like it would be a nice visit, but not an all day event.

What did you have in mind for a drive?

Yeah, you may be right about the insurance.

I thought I would just offer a suggestion that may help someone out. Maybe if you look at this link, it will give you a better picture of what I was talking about. http://www.daystoamaze.co.uk/cat_home.tpl?cat=ferrari A one day rental is $866 on this website, which is cheaper than here in the States, but the one in the previous link is the cheapest option that they offer. That would be $200 per person and I gather there are at least 5-6 people per hour session. However here in the States, you could charge enough to cover your cost and make a profit as you see fit. But really what do I know, I don't own a F-car. I just think this fantasy for a day or ten minutes is a great idea!!

    Very interesting show............

A lot of old cars from MB, Healys, Vettes, Jags, a 16 cyl Caddi, Fiat 500s, and the list goes on.

We had a real nice time as Barry & Cyndi stopped by the house first. I still have the trailing of my congestion so I wasn't sure I was going to make it. I'm glad they motivated me..........

As for the Ferraris....... They had a change of plans and let all the Ferraris be together. I think had the group known this, a lot more would have gone. Hopefully we will get it cleared up before next year.

It was good seeing the guys that showed up......

Not sure what happened to Darren???

I'll post up some picts my site....

Well, I went and had a great time too, but i didn't get to meet any of you guys. Next time we should all wear some ferrarichat gear or some'ing to help the "newbies" like myself get more involved. Really nice cars though, the Jag that won people's choice was amazing, the owner even imported the leather from England with the exact same pattern as the original leather.

    Anyways, maybe next time!
