Arrived to Shaghai for the GP a few days ago. Visited the newest (and largest) Ferrari Store in downtown Shanghai. What an incredible display of capitalism!! :) See my thread on the store at:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78905

Spent today at the track with my girlfriend and mother. Fchatter "Black355" and "Judge4re" were also there although we were on opposite sides of the track and did not have a chance to meet up. As modern, clean, and organized as the facility is ... they are missing one important thing ... Disneyland PeopleMovers!! :) There is no way around the track unless you are prepared to walk miles and miles!

Beautiful day with temps in the low to mid 70s and clear skies. The venue is an awesome display of modern architecture. The main entrance with all the vendor booths was incredible. Although I am a Ferrari/Schumacher fan my girlfriend - being part Finnish - is a Kimi fan. I caught her buying a Kimi t-shirt for tomorrow's race!! Traitorette! :)

    Enjoy the pics!

    Thanks for pics ...

Are the ticket prices cheaper than the Indy GP?

Looks like the mother (if it is her) also switched camps to Raikkonen. :)

I stepped off the bus at the track to the deafening sounds of the cars on the track a quarter mile away! This was beyond awesome! Went to the paddock and watched the cars rip down the straight. This racing is insane! Can't wait until tomorrow for the race. Tagged up with the Judge and his lovely wife for a few pops at the Hyatt. It was great to meet these two, as they were a kick in the a$$ to hang with!

Took a pick of the front of the Ferrari store downtown and the paddock. More pic's tomorrow!

Got great seats at the back of the front straight. Can see the back half of the front straight all the way throught the change up (the entire elevation) and part of the back straight. Pretty sick seats.

Too tired after Shanghai special massage so only a few pics for now...

Damn, Too bad I got rid of my big guns otherwise I would sent Emil out with my 600mm image stabilzed lense with a doubler and make him work! Then again, customs woulda thought he was smuggling in missiles! You would be able to pic out chips in the paint lol

The Judege is smarter than anyone in the paddock! He's at the end of the straight with probably the best view of the critical turns after the straight. I could not get in to that section to take pics!

Breathtaking was the sound of all of the cars on the track. I thought things were loud during practice.......When ALL of the cars started the race, the decible level was insane! I'm really at a loss for words to explain these two days (Now at the airport hotel in Hong Kong, awake at 2:30AM with a 9:00AM flight ahead). If I can stay awake until I get on the plane, I can sleep on the way home and not be all screwed up for two or three days. I get home a half an hour after I leave!

Getting into the Ferrari pit was pretty cool, as I got to get a good, close up look at the red monster!

Peter - You lucky dog! The closest I got to a Ferrari was the car on display in the front entrance! :) I agree. The decibel level was insane. Being towards the end of the back straight away in the stands with the saucer-shaped roofs allowed us to hear the cars at full song as they went by, decelerated, and accelerated again. It was amazing.

My girlfriend was in the spirit supporting her man Kimi by wearing his colors. In true F1 spirit she dressed for the event and a number of fans now have some great "Kodak moments" with her. It was all in good fun!

Why does China get a huge Mercedes display like that and the USGP gets nothing. It was great the first few years and year by year we get less and less.

Phil - Good question. And theirs was not the only one. Sauber, Toyota, Williams, Ferrari, Bridgestoone, and Michelin all had substantial displays. Alot of good vendor booths, etc. Certainly the way a F1 race should be displayed. I guess the USGP could take a few lessons.

Granted China is a growing market since we gave all our manufacturing jobs away to them on a platter, but we still are a very powerful market and for us not to have first class displays makes no sense. Maybe its Tony George's fault, he seems to be a magnet of blame everytime something goes wrong. I heard that Bernie made a statement that many tracks look like the 3rd world after China was built. All that money Tony George put into Indy 6 years ago and it still can't come close to the China circuit.

    Jeffrey,
Thanks for the pics, and stunning wife (also looks like she's lot of fun to be with). How did you get so lucky? :)

Is she a Ferrari fan outside of Kimi?

As for the race, how was the viewing?

Thanks for the compliment although she is not my wife. Been my sidekick for almost three years though! She is a Ferrari fan and looks forward to Kimi joining the Scuderia in '07 (hopefully!). The race was excellent despite the fact that some thought it was boring. However, the fact that I was there may have had something to do with it. Screaming F1 engines make up for alot of deficiencies!! :)
