I went and had a look at the 348TS in Maranello's in Egham yesterday and I have to say it was one of the best examples I've seen.

However, I'm curious as to what peoples thoughts are on what sort of value an A1 condition 348 can command?

This one's up for £38,950 and it's done just under 8k with a pretty good service history (not quite 100% but it's been regularly serviced).

What does everyone think? What's the ceiling price for 348's?

Dale's got the best 348ts in the country (probably in the world) so whatever Dale paid is the ceiling for 348ts's.

A bit high in my opinion.

Between £30K and £35K would be the price range.

I'd say that's a fair price, especially as the mileage is fairly low. I would add though that the prospective buyer will have to budget to upgrade the alternator and add a good sports exhaust - lets say budget for another 3K. Get the car reduced to 35-36K and use the savings for the mods

My guess was that it's probably worth around £35k because, as mentioned, it still will need a few minor tweeks (e.g. tubi!).

I don't doubt from the pictures posted here that Dale's is clearly in a league of it's own so I guess it should give the ceiling price for 348's as a whole.

I'm still unsure whether to look for a low mileage example like this one or whether to go for one that's done between 20-30k because I do intend to use it and I don't want to pay the premium for low miles only to waste it away.

omegasteve - Once my Porsche is sold I will be in touch.

If you intend to use it buy one that's been used regularly maybe around 30k but don't be put off by higher miles if the Car is right :)

Bloody 'ell - £38,950? I'm only asking just over £30k for my Spider, 34k miles, serviced up to the hilt and in top notch condition!

I just don't understand why no-one seems interested in cars like mine and Steve's, which are in superb condition, well driven and looked after and well known on places like F.Chat and PistonHeads. They are very fairly priced yet, give them to a dealer for £30k, let them put 4 or 5k on the price and people will buy them all day long.

    yours puzzled,
    al

That is so true, mine is up at Bob Houghton's SOR for £37,495!

FWIW I think its too high, but they reckon it's worth the money and they buyer will also get a warrenty with arguebly the best independant in the UK.

Al, IMO I think you're being a bit generous in your price. Would have thought yours would have been in the £35-37K bracket

There are possibly a couple of explanations why people would rather pay more and buy from a dealer:
warranty, the Sale of Goods Act gives at least some warranty protection, which is a major consideration when an engine rebuild costs circa 10 grand!
Finance, not everyone chooses to pay cash, with money being so cheap, plenty of buyers would use their cash for other purposes.
Peace of mind, less risk re outstanding finance, write off, stolen etc.

It's worth £35-36k all day long Steve, especially with the ownership history it has, last owner FOC regional organiser, owner before that, the Dealer Principal at MHT!

Thing is, I have some Spanish property coming through to completion any time now and I would rather the car went to a good home for a fair price now than be hanging around until next Spring, when yes, the price will shoot up again to it's true value!

    Warranty: Maybe.

Finance: Just get a bank loan, it's cheaper than the finance houses.

risk: Just get it HPI'd. I still have a copy of the HPI check that was done by MHT for Leyton.

I for one will be interested in the cars people have for sale here and on Pistonheads but there's no point expressing an interest until my Boxster sells. Unless for some bizarre reason a Boxster p/x is of interest to anyone!

The fact that these cars are known is a definite plus, whether that would command a premium over a similar example I'm not sure.

Al - your car has been of interest to me since you put it up for sale especially as there are currently 2 yellow spiders available at the moment. My only problem is that this will be my first Ferrari and I'm finding it hard to move away from the bedroom wall poster colour ... Rosso Corsa.

No dig intended Paul, I just don't understand people's fright of buying a car privately when it is in such obviously cared for condition and mechanically superb and from a fairly well known owner.

I am going to have to end up letting it go to the trade and I just know someone is going to buy the very same car that I am offering for just over £30k, for around £36 or even £38k.

On the colour side, I was going to get yellow, then I saw all the red ones and thought, nah, be sensible... then I saw Giallo in the flesh and all reason went out the window. But since when has owning a Ferrari been about reason? :D

I should have sold mine in the summer and got £35-36k, I would have saved £900 on the ferry to Santander, about £300 in fuel, I wouldn't have needed the last service & valve guide check and, all in all, would have probably been better off by about £6k...

... but then i wouldn't have had the life long memory of taking my Ferrari down to Nerja, spending 9 hours driving some fabulous roads, seeing crowds of people going absolutely bananas over it in Puerto Banus, and had gorgeous Spanish girls jumping in my passenger seat or lying across the bonnet ... memories eh ... they're what make our lives what they are :)

    Al,
Give CARRS of Exeter a call, they have an identical spec car to yours for sale at £36995. Ask them what level of interest they've had then mention that you've got an identical car for sale for a lot less money. Maybe they would be able to sell it on a SOR basis, you never know it may work in your favour?

Provided the dealer has a good reputation......don't get me started on one man bands who couldnt care less about their warranty obligations ;)

As for finnance it seems people who go to a dealer / specialist for a car and finnance, don't tend to be that interested in the intrest rates just in the loan term and monthly payments (they have a car and a monthly budget in mind and want to get as much car as they can for the £xxx a month they can afford)

Thanks Leyton, but I cannot get the car down to them. If i had a decent independent close to me then i would gladly let them have it SOR.

However, i have just found out that i can now add "as seen on exoticspotter.com" to my advert :D

On the colour theme, I've obviously seen numerous red 348's in the flesh but I have yet to see yellow, nero or blue (chiaro?) example.

I guess it's fair to say that often pictures don't do the cars justice ... perhaps I should be reserving my judgement until I see the real thing!
