Hey! I Got it!! The Ferrari V12 was swapped with something by Austin or Morris, like an MG XPAG series motor. That would explain why the air filters fit the carbs perfectly! What a great idea!!

On a more serious note I don’t know why anyone would fit Solex carbs (which are slower to respond to throttle input, a defect that is hidden with long stroke British motors) in place of Webbers. Even manufacturers, like Jag, who used Solexes on their production cars, nailed on Webbers when they went racing.

    Poor old # 1545GT.

Some cars were built with Solex/Bosch setups like this car, 2407 (an SA Cab). The build sheets for the car indicate this configuration. This may have been a customer order or a "factory experiment" (Kalikow's SA cab is similarly equipped).

I've seen them with Lucas distributors too. In that period lots of combinations were tried.

People with the S2 Lotus Europa always swap the Solex for a Weber. All of a sudden they like thei cars twice as much!

Agreed. My S2 has a sidedraught weber (40DCOE IIRC) and stainless steel headers. It runs a lot better that the original setup.

    Hello mr. Buurman

I can inform you that mr. Kees van Stokkum from holland wrote a article in gli amici a few years ago regarding a collaboration between Ferrari and solex

Gli amici is a magazine for members of the dutch ferrari club.

I do not know exact what number but I will ask him.

    Best regards,
    Jeffrey

The 250 GT SWB was homologated with Solex carburettors as well as Webers. Some 290S/315S/335S had six double choke Solex carburettors.

Ferrari and Fangio were F1 world champion in 1956 with Solex carburetors. I have seen in the early 70s the cavallino sculpture given by Ferrari to Solex in the headquarter meeting room of the Solex plant in Turin.
