308 GT4 engine

My car us a US car, and has an engine type F106A.

F106AE is the engine family for a '78-'79 US 308B/S (and probably GT4 too -- check the OM).

I think one of the later 308 QVs is F105A so the engine family numbers don't match the model introduction order exactly, but I believe there is a general trend with later models being higher numbers.

 

Now that I think about it, I believe the book Original Ferrari V8 has a description of the engine types. I don't have it with me, but I can look it up tonight when I get home.

I thought euro or US versions could only be decerned by the VIN.

For instance a dry sump 308 engine from 77 was a euro version but non US. The same engine a few years later carried the same engine code but was now US legal?

Does anyone know if the Australian versions were considered to be like the Euro versions?They were delivered without any smog equipment and air pumps andwithout the thermo exhausts either

 

Maurice , our cars were modelled after the US variants so had things like air pumps and other smog gear.

However down the years this gear has been removed from what I've heard from a lot of owners.

 

So John do you think our GT4 have the US cams or the Euro cams?Besides the smog stuff is that the only other difference between the variants?My car looks pretty original and i dont have any signs of any of that equipment.Did yours have any of the smog stuff?

 

mine had none of the smog gear but you could see where it would have been.

I remember my cams being high lift but that was due to it being a 74 series one car

 

As some have mentioned it's actually North American Version or World Version...

F106AB here on both mine, 1977 North American versions....

And I dont think there was any specific order of installation, as at that point there were "batches" of engines meeting cars as they went down the line...

Right, the mounting castings are all there for the pump supports, for instance, but your headers would be "open type" while ours were wrapped in asbestos with aluminum cladding,........


And when the air pumps come off we have this little end of the cam that spins...I put an expresso grinder on it....
