As far as "Do a search" goes...that could apply to 80% of the posts here so the website would get thin pretty quick.

Not only that...the's new members that contribute.

The only hints I could give are:

If you do something that is labor based....even at a high rate per hr, you will be limited in income by how many hours you work. You can hire guys under you...but that's another headache. You need leverage.

If you sell something in your business, it's not how low a price you can you sell, it's how you buy. #1 relationship is your vendors. You get better pricing because you buy in volume and pay early. That goes miles. Then you will have better prices and maintain higher margin, and market share follows.

Put some money away early in equities and leave it alone and let compounding do the work for you.

 

Derek, you and Miguel are probably really nice guys. But from my experience, people who look for a "formula" answer (I do ABC for long enough and I will eventually own a Ferrari) to owning a Ferrari haven't really figured it out yet. You're apparently looking for a 430 so you should better clued.

Miguel, as has been well documented, you can own many F-cars for far less than any recent used BMW or MB. That is why you'll find almost all careers/professions/jobs listed under the F-car owner category. If someone says, that's not what I meant by a Ferrari, then I'm forced to say, "then you're only concerned about Ferrari's as status symbols not as a marque that has produced hundreds of car models, each of which represents the best they could do at that instant in time". I still look at 308GTB's and think they're cool, even though they're "only" $30K, give or take.

Next, if the question turns only to the big $$$K Ferrari's, then it changes to a question of, "how can I make enough money that I can afford to spend $$$K on a car and not lose my house, wife, shirt, etc eventually". Guess what, no one will pay you $$$K just because you are A, B, C profession. Not even if A, B, or C are doctors, lawyers or CEO's. The majority of doctors, lawyers and CEO's don't and can't afford big $$$K money for a car.

To truly afford big $$$K money, "just" for a car, you're really good at what you do, you probably took some risk(s) somewhere that would have turned a few people's hair white, you don't take $h!t from people, you don't need someone else to speak for you, and you don't look for answers to "life's big questions" to be handed to you.

Every one of these people asking "what do you do for a living to afford this car" are asking the wrong question. They should be asking " what kind of person are you and what obstacles did you have to overcome and what gave you the strength and will to overcome those obstacles" to afford that big $$$K car.

Oh yeah, be sure to keep a sense of humor while you're doing this .

I think the problem is, when you search, there's so many posts about it and none of them are taken seriously so even if you read all 60 threads started about it in the past month, you only get 4 or 5 real answers.

 

If someone really wants the public to know what they do for a living, they will have it in their profile under occupation. Otherwise, you would probably get a more thorough responses by contacting Ferrari owners directly, via PM or email, with an intelligent inquiry.

Bottomline, we have this sense of replication and lack of barriers in our culture. Most decent folks will share their backgrounds, however these cars are often recreation for many of us. When people fail to take a personal interest and just want to find out if there is a shortcut, it can be seen as rude.

There are no shortcuts. Regardless of what you are into, there are some common denominators. On that note, acquire assets.

And people wonder why others sometime think Ferrari owners are arrogant jerks and damage their cars.

I remember going to an entrepreneurial event, and the (BIG TIME) investors there said they only look into product companies, NOT service companies, because service companies are limited by the hours in a day. I hadn't thought about that too much before... but it's 100% true. Great post!

 

But you did insert yourself. Which is OK! This is a discussion forum after all. Having done so, can I ask why you didn't include your own occupation & success story to help guide the thread in the direction you hoped it would go?

BTW - my comment about sewage wasn't actually my occupation (doh!), but it was truly meant to get Miguel thinking. There are a lot of "non-standard" paths to success, including the ones everyone else looks down on or wouldn't normally think to do.

The second paragraph has the founding story of Browning-Ferris, the 2nd largest waste management company in the world. Started 38 years ago by an accountant (!) as a small waste disposal business in Houston! Whether he ever owned a Ferrari, he could have bought many if he chose, as he became a multi-millionaire. Do you think that answering "accountant" would have told his story?

thats exactly what my intention was when i started this thread, seeing as im 18, just out of high school, just starting college, love ferrari's. I was just hoping that more people would be more honest with there answers, so thanks to those who were serious.
