So my friend with a 95 355 spider calls me this afternoon and wants to race his car againts my 99 360F1, kids are at a friends house, wife is out shopping, and driving a Ferrari sure beats watching football! We have a place we go open up the cars that has no traffic and not to far from where we live So on the way there we pick up a 997 twin turbo, he seemed to be going to the same place as us. Only one problem, there are some evil looking emblems and some stickers that read gt 604 on the side of the car? So while I walked away from the 355 the Porsche walked away from me! Man that thing was fast. The owner only had a few passes and had to go, he said it did indeed have 604 HP! I was quite proud of my bone stock 360 keeping up with 604HP as good as it did, thank Ferrari for the F1 trans, never blew a launch or a shift. Just another sunday afternoon!!

    Hello,

I did come across with a client that said he'll take on delivery of a 997 Turbo in Dec. 2005. I asked him twice if I heard it right, 99"6"??? or 99"7"??? He spelled it out "99S-E-V-E-N, TurbooOOO!!!" This is a client who I have serviced for several years now, he seems to have great connections within the automotive industry and manufacturers main guys. I remember he had 1 of 2 Mercedes-Benz SL65 in the US at the time, that was 8 months before the release date. Also, he rolled in a few months later with one of the BMW X5 "M" Version, he showed me the difference of the engine layout, interior, and the exterior design vs. the regular X5's. Anyhow, I'll wait for his 997 Turbo to arrive on Dec. Till then, I'll believe it when I see it :)

    Cheers!

F430 is fast...but not so sure that it will take a 604HP modded 996 TT.

My 2001 996 twin Turbo just got some work done it. Its probabaly close to 500 hP and it is FAST!!

check out www.sharkwerks.com. Alex has a car thats almost 850hP!! That Gt604 probabaly got done there or at Akurrat previously.

I still love my 99 355 F1 Spider though. True Ferrari feel. Top down, Tubi exhaust popping! and unburnt fuel smell.

But for pure bang for the buck, the twin turbo is relative easily tweaked to get more hP. Next year, maybe 600 hP!!!

Sorry no pictures or video, it was such a spur of the moment drive. I think a 430 would have done very well againts that porsche, considering he walked away not ran away from my stock 360. Also isn't that porsche quite a bit heavier than the Ferrari's?

A stock 996TT coupe is supposed to be 3530 lbs with 415HP. A stock 360 coupe is 3240 and 400HP. Since Porsche tends to be conservative with their HP ratings and Ferrari tends to be optimistic, the two are actually relatively close to each other and most test reviews show the 996TT slightly faster in 0-60 (e.g. 4.1 vs 4.3 secs). Track times vary and it would depend on driver, track, tires, actual weight (fuel level, passengers) etc. I would normally give an edge to the Porsche in a matchup. But with a true 600HP, a mod'ed 996TT should have blown a stock 360 away, not walked away.

I have a stock 360 and Gemballa Porsche Turbo Cayenne with 600HP. I drag-raced my wife (she in the Cayenne) and sad to say the Cayenne blew the 360 away up to 100mph. I was 2 car lengths behind when she backed off. After 100 the 360 would take over, without question. But an SUV??? Oh the shame of it all...

Turbo porsches are pretty fast, without a doubt. You maybe able to get a jump off the line while the porsches are still inhaling, but that wont last long. Second chance is on the top end, because I think the Ferrari suspension and ground effects have slight advantage over 150, unless they have done suspension mods too.

A Cayenne is like 5000lbs right? So with your Gemballa mods, you're at 8.3lbs/HP, the 360 would be 8.1lbs/HP, so that's actually pretty close.

Correct me if I'm wrong -- I think we're talking about quickness, so tourqe and not hp?? If so, Cayenne is 880nm tourque, converted to ft. lbs is 649 ft. lbs. and kerb weight is 5,192. 360 = 3064 kerb weight and 275 ft. lbs tourqe. So Cayenne is 8 lbs/ft. and 360 is 11 lbs/ft, about 30% quicker?? The beast goes though cv-joints every 5,000 miles. It also cost me my custom license plate (she now has it) :(

Fair enough - I didn't have the torque figures for your Gemballa :). Anyway, my point was more that it wasn't that surprising that a souped up SUV did that well.

    The 430 wouldn't have a chance against a 996TT with 600hp, and I think a stock 996turbo would still walk away from a 430.

I thought a stock 360 coupe was 3065 lbs , with a full tank of gas according to the owners manuel. This being a 1999.

    P. 6.5 of the US Modena manual I have says 3240 (I think this is full fuel). On P. 6.4 of the Euro Modena manual, it says 3086.
