Any recommendations for insurance for my 2002 registered 360 Modena that I'm picking up later this week?

I have had a quotation from my previous 2nd car insurer (a Kit car specialist, Footman James) of £1,157 for 4500 miles and £908 for 3000 miles.

The 360 will be garaged, I'm 30yrs old full protected ncb, in a quiet area in Cheshire. Planning to join FOC, its a 2nd car with my NCB on my everyday Lexus GS. Footman didn't seem to mind this, my previous kit car insurance was only £200 yearly...

Are these good quotes?? should I even bother checking out any others??

Looks spot on to me. I'm the same age, full ncb with 1 malicious damage claim on my 355 and I pay £1100.

    Thanks ravi...

I was a little surprised that no matter what the year or the price (right from 60K through to 120K) or LHD vs RHD made absolutely no difference to quotation price or apparent risk... I'll never understand insurers...

Any modern Fcar for under 1200 gbp p a is alright (in the same way that any aircraft landing you can walk away from is alright !!).

You can try Aon, Liverpool Victoria, Luker Rowe, or Richard & Nicholls (I think) who are all the usual players in this market, but I'd expect there to be not much difference. Beware that lots of specialist insurers of performance cars have recently withdrawn trackday cover of any sort (not sure why, only seen 2 or 3 accidents in several years of trackdays). I think a bunch of Fcar friendly insurers are listed on ferrariownersclub.co.uk.
    Good luck.

Well I have insured the 360 now for £908 pa with a 3,000 miles restricted
policy. If I want to do more miles beyond that it is about 16p per mile. E.g.
£250 more gets me 1500 extra miles. The surprise I had was that dredded NCB
clause that uk insurers constantly ransom motorists with more than one car with.

In a nutshell they could NOT insure my 360 unless I brought my everyday car
(Lexus GS) over to them (so they could bonus match my protected ncb) so thats
exactly what I had to do (Tesco.com would not entertain the idea of bonus match
on my 360 which is their loss as they have lost both my cars now to the tune of
~£1700 per year, and I have been with them for the last 4 year without any
incidents). In the end I discovered it was actually cheaper if I increased
my excess to £500 (I would not claim if it was less than £500 anyway).

Sadly NO insurance discount recognised by FOOTMAN JAMES for FOC membership. Guys whats going on there?

I was angry that I was no longer able to buy insurance for my 2nd car with the
competition of shopping around because i was forced to 'use' the ncb with only
1 insurer. Quite ridiculous. It is even worse news to find out that all those
years of having kit car insurance does NOT gain you any additional bonuses!
Thats right, you don't gain NCB if you insure a kit car. These rules are
certainly written to make the insurers richer by allowing them to own a
monopoly on insuring your additional cars.

Having to put both cars under the same insurer gives them an unfair advantage as
basically they can charge you pretty much what they want on the 1st car as they
know you cannot go anywhere else because of the unfair approach of not being
able to use your 'bonus' on more than 1 car at a time. Hence you'd loose up to
65% of a premium cost if you tried to 'shop' around. Jeez, what a con these
rules really are. Why have this whole system anyway? it is pretty ridiculous
really as why should you be forced to 'using your bonus on 1 car'? It should be
on the person, just like breakdown cover is for the person. The fact remains as
long as you have been continously insured you still have not had any accidents
or convictions (i.e your NO CLAIMS BONUS, the whole reason the system started in
the 1st place was to reward people who don't claim!) so why should use lose your
ncb on the 2nd, 3rd cars just because you choose to insure with another insurer?
I.e. Why should it even mattter? Just another way to rip off british motorists
    in my opinion.

Overall though I am happy with Footman James themselves, its not their fault the
whole insurance industry is running to unfair rules.

I'm not too upset though because they really did me a good deal. I got unlimited
mileage on the Lexus GS at a similar price to what Tesco charged me (but only
after increasing the excess to £500) and I managed to get the 360 insured too
at a reasonable price. In the end they didn't rape me (despite the fact they
had ample room to because of the unfair rules). Glad thats all over for another
year again now! phew.... rant over

Im Glad to see you managed to get a good deal. The magic '30' age is certainly a door opener in terms of insurance options :)

For the benefit of anyone else reading the thread, I just changed over to Adrian Flux, as they can accommodate people who are 25+ (one of the few), and I think I got a fantastic deal:

355 spider, 3000 miles, 6 NCB, Central London garaged, im 27.

1400 !!! Absolute bargain. Compared to Norwich unions 'quote me very unhappy' effort of 7000.
