Another Speeding Ticket- Damn!

there used to be a program you could request with the judge. the 6-8 program. which means that if you get more than one ticket in the alloted period, you could do a program of 8 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of driving instruction. I had to do it years back. I do not know if they still do it, but i would ask the judge. It saved my insurance.

Several years ago I received two tickets within 3 months. Went to traffic school on the 1st, then took the 2nd to trial. At the trial, since the officer appreared, I stated that I am not contesting the ticket, however my employer requires I attend traffic school. Judge, looked at the officer and said is that acceptable with you, officer said yes, and I did 12 hours school.

 

try to fight the 70 in a 65, cause to the judge it looks like you werent even speeding. traffic school the latest.


also look into trial by declaration. aparently you can write your way out of a ticket. imo the 70 in a 65 would be the easiest to have written off

I got popped in my 164S last week near Disneyland. Orange County CHP must be after 164S's right now.

 

Tons of LE activity this morning. I just got back from a quick trip and passed 3 no-light-bar pursuit cars on 73 (2 North, 1 South, 1 on Baker Street outside Ferrari of Orange County and 1 in my complex in Newport.

 

You guys realize that the end of the month is crunch time so these guys can meet that imaginary quotas they aren't supposed to have, right?

Sucks that you got popped twice like that - I know the feeling. Several years ago I got two within a week one time. I had them in court on the same day, and both officers showed up - oops.

The first was for running a stop sign which I simply didn't do - it wasn't even a rolling stop. My passenger was there and testified to say the same and I still lost. The other was for speeding, which I certainly deserved, but if you can afford the time in court (and I already needed to be there) then it's worth it to at least try fighting it.

Three words: Trial by mail

Read the back of the ticket and take that option. Don't worry about telling an elaborate story, you can write almost anything and it will work.

Trust me. Last three SoCal speeding tickets I had were all settled this way.

 

I'll second that. 164 is a lot faster than most people think. I sold mine this morning because it costs more to fix than the 308. A 74 GTV is replacing it as my commuter.

Good luck with your ticket(s). Maybe if we go at the same time/day, we can convince the judge that the chp has something against 164's?

 

If California is the same as Michigan 5 over on the freeway is no points just a fine.....otherwise make a plea to the judge that you have a good record and you don't want the points, but you don't care about paying a fine....remember it's a business....if both tickets are out of the same court you may be screwed

 

Have you seen the amount of the tickets? I got one a month ago on the 405, 80 in a 65 zone and got the court papers in the mail... the bail amount is $774. Is that B/S?

 

Man that's ridiculous! I got one maybe 4 years ago for 59 in a 35 in Manhattan Beach, and I paid $3xx.

 

You can take traffic school more than once based on a certain vehicle code, although it’s predicated on the judge’s discretion. p.m. and when I dig up the section I will send it to you.

 

Thats insane for a speeding ticket I would hate to see the amount if it was in a construction zone......I have seen bail amounts less than that for criminal matters

 

I did the traffic school in San Diego - the CHP indicated on the ticket that I could do that. There is a limit on how many times you can do traffic school in a given period, but it did keep the point from appearing on my record and kept me in the low-risk insurance bracket.

Traffic school is the dullest experience you will ever have, but if there's an online version of it that might be less painful.

 

The Governator doubled traffic fines as a way to get more money into the CA coffers.

As a Former LE officer...
What I would do is fight both tickets and try to delay them several times... CHP have their hearings on specific days so that they are not in court everyday of the week... Hopefully one of the cops doesnt show up on one of the tickets... if the first one doesnt show you can take traffic school for the second one... If they bothshow, you can do the 12 hour traffic school for the second one, which will take the point away for DMV purposes... But the ticket will still appear for Insurance purposes. As far as only going 70 in 65... Judges will have no mercy... and By the way if teh tickets are issued in OC, you must do teh traffic school in the county courthouse... no online bs or Improv schools are accepted... Maybe I'm mis-reading -- but I went to traffic school and the point on my license was "masked" so my insurance company didn't raise my rates. I believe the ticket is still on my DMV record, just not visible outside the DMV.

 

The point is removed so that ...if say you receive 3 more tickets in the next year you dont lose your license.... where if the point remained... you'd probably lose you license ... because 4 points is g-bye license... however, the violation still will remain on your record for the Ins co to see and therefore they hit you for it when they evaluate your driving record.

 

Got three tickets once in one month in San Diego around 1986. One week later, I was pursued by the cities finest with his lights on, I just took a chance and had nothing to lose, so I took a quick look---had a quarter of a tank of gas and put the accelerator to the floor and never looked back. Saved a point right there as the bacon brigade never got me. I had to hire a traffic attorney specialist who was able to negotiate a bulkrate with the PRC court system, a 3 for 1 conviction and that lone conviction was dealt with via traffic school. I was lucky. Spent a ton on fines and attorney fees, but well worth the insurance cost savings.
