    Peter,
I used emachineshop.com for the mounting plate. It's a little pricy if you only make a few like I did, but the per-unit costs come down to a reasonable amount if you have 5-10 or more made. The minimum cost for them to do one of anything seems to be about $125, with additional copies only costing ~$10 more per item. That is only based on my small plate, something bigger/more complex would obviously cost more. I'm sure a mounting plate could be made for the XR700s for similar $s.

    Hi Guys,
I figured out how to get eMachineshop to draw the part!!!!!

According to the program, at 10 units, the cost is US$19.86 per piece plus US$17 shipping (to Canada). At 20 units the cost is US12.93 plus US$17 shipping. Qty 2 is US$71.50 each, which is still probably cheap considering the time it must have taken Peter to make 1.

See attached for a 3D of the part. Note that I am guessing at the sizes just to ball park the costs. 2" overall diameter, .315" tall, with the thin part of the ring at .125". The 4 mounting holes are .125", the 4 threaded holes are #8-32 tapped through.
If I were to completely finish this part, then I would add a groove at the top of each raised section to guide the optical brackets. That way they have no choice but to follow the arc. I would also use washers in place of the small plates that Peter made.

I will gladly send anyone the eMachineShop file if you want to go further. I already spent my cash on a Ferrari single distributor which is patiently waiting for its mating spline drive.

    Peter,
We should get together and see if we can come up with a design that can be used with either the Crane or the Pertronix modules. We could then do a 'group buy' and and get the per-unit costs down. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
