1/18 612 GTC (NOT for sale)

I figured this was true. . . is it? Dino's original was so damn good that you can't help but wonder if Ferrari was planning on getting back into Gruppe B or something


BTW, seems "funny" to EXACTLY copy someone else's design, not give that person ANY credit at all, and then brag about what you're doing, or am I missing something here ??

it is based on a hotwheel 612 1-18. I think Dino's one is based on a 1/24 Revell 612.

 

I was wondering if Ferrari made a car, let's say F50GT, and I like it so much, and I copy all the design of F50GT, will I fell into the same hook.... Dino's 1/24 612GTC did give a great idea on this project.

In fact, we spent alot effort to improve the design to make it more perfect, some imperfect place are at rear side, which was not show in photos. As most you blame on me is the exterior of the model, the interior and wheel set are totally different. For Dino, if I made you upset on this model, I apologize here. And hopefully, this can resolve the dispute here. Also, I have told my friend to stop making this to complete it. I suppose want to share with you all, well, it seems it goes so negative........

 

Well, the scale is different, but we all still want to know: did you COPY Dino's design or what???

 

did not copy the exact whole thing, Conceptually, we have studied his photos and added some of our own design, especially the rear and base which not show in photo. The side view of the Dino's version is far aggressive than ours, due to the material used, Dino's one is plastic with putty, and ours are metal and resin. And one important thing that the model is less aggressive than Dino's one, that this model same as original HW 612, doors, front hood can be opened. Exterior of 1st half of the car looks close to each other, but the rear 2nd half, base, interior design, engine, suspension setting are all different. Are these clear the point?

 

Post a pic of the bottom of the car showing the Hot Wheels logo.
Post a pic with your hand in the pic as a size reference.
Give credit where credit is due.

Your inital post didn't really say anything other than showing the 612 GTC project car. I wasn't sure if you were just showing us pictures of the 612 GTC that you might of found and assumed that it was based of the 1/18 Hotwheel model.

Now, I understand that this is your project, inspired by Dino's creation. Well, all I have to say now is good job, it looks great!

It still would of been nice if you had given more information about what you were doing in you first post, since most of us here are very familiar with Dino models.

 

You're admitting you and your friends you commissioned to modify the body clearly intentionally ripped off my design...and have planned one in 1/14 scale too. In your mind it's okay to copy me because you guys have made it in a different scale...that is flawed thinking. The truth and the implication here is that you and your friends are unethical and you have the nerve to exploit it.

It's one thing to see something and get an idea from it to do something of your own design, but what you have done is akin to forgery and I don't appreciate it at all. You have taken away from me the one thing that makes all the work and the joy of the completed project special and that is the feeling of having something unique, something that I own.

Just because you guys have the talent to copy the work of others in other scales doesn't make it right. You said in another post, "Also, I have told my friend to stop making this to complete it." I hope you are truthful enough to follow through with what you said, further more I think you should destroy the 1/18 copy you have shown in this thread.

I will not buy anything you make or support you in anyway....and I hope you have learned a lesson here because there will be other temptations to copy works of others and I for one will be watching.

SLK, I appreciate with your effort, as it is a "concept" car, it is a concept unless you have a legal copyright. Well, in my opinion, I don't think Dino has any official copyright or license, once he posted up the photos, he is sharing and anyone can use his as a reference or even copy it unless he declared he has registered this and show everyone that he owns the copyright. In reality, what if BBR or other model (MGmodel, ABC, HW, etc) maker copy Dino's car and manufacture in different scale. I bet Dino has nothing to say and stay silence as he got no license nor copyright.

SLK, in case you are destroying the model, how about you sell it to me for a price, this is my email, [email protected] and we can discuss it.

 

FerrariNuts, why wouldn't you give Dino the opportunity to create a model for you? You acknowlege that he is the original designer, so why not give him the first chance at profiting from it? This seems like the fair thing to do, regardless of the technicalities of whether slk copied the design. Whether Dino has any interest in making one for you or not, it's still the right thing to do.

Too many negative conslusions have been reached in this thread. Dino S, your work is fantastic. Very creative. More importantly, your conslusions as to what this car would look like for real, are pretty much correct. I hope to consult with you sometime in the near future on a 1/1 Ferrari project I am considering as I think your ability to visualize a concept is terrific.

I don't think SLK was trying to rip off anyone. Would be way too obvious on F-Chat. Consider this, if I were building a real 612 GTC, with the exception of the rear fender air intake just behind the doors, it would look much like Dino S's concept.

If Dino can make it in 1/18 metal, I can buy no matter from who make it....1/24 plastic is not my type. Plastic is always plastic, it is not diecast, that is why there are so much critics about the 1/12 Tamiya Enzo.

I have studied some of Dino's photo, um... I just don't like the rear of the car, the airflow panel is strange, I have never seen a real Ferrari race car which has that style of airflow panel. The angle of the rear spoiler is too high, it looks like Dino's design come from a F1 race car more, and for SLK's one, it looks closer to real Ferrari race car, i.e. 575GTC, F360NGT, etc. I am not too agree with you guys saying that SLK is copying Dino's design, whatif Ferrari really transform a 612 to 612GTC and use Dino's design. Will you ppl say the same thing and complaining Ferrari about this. Even in one day, there is another guy who make a 1/24 612GTC similar to Dino's one, then that is a copy. In this case, if you ppl compare the 2 models closely, I will say SLK and DIno ones are completely different, even in shape, modify style, ideas. It just like the BARBUS based on Mercedes Benz car and modify the car more aggressive in the view of power and looks. SLK is doing this thing.

 

No I don't have a copyright, what I object to most of all is the blatant copy of my work without the courtesy of permission, and that he noted the popularity of my car here and knew that most model collectors here collect 1/18 scale, he saw an opportunity here to make money and put that before any trace of decorum. To post that pic here knowing it would generate sales to people like you who are no better than he is for supporting such underhanded business is the principle of the whole issue.

Furthermore he has posted here since my post # 34 but chose not to respond to it, so I ask you directly, Michael, what do plan to do? Are you going to be as shallow as to use my direct design and sell copies, or will you take the high road and design your own 612 racer which is perfectly fine with me?

It will only be qualified as a "copy" if its in 1/24 scale?? hmm, then I guess all the diecast manufacturiing companies can stop spending millions of dollars for licenses to produce ACCORDING TO YOU. Since they are not producing 1/1 models, therefore, thats not copying right? WRONG.

Wrong again. Using your metaphor and assume we are talking about wheels here, Dino would be BRABUS. And SLK would be those replicas that shows up on Ebay for half of the price(of course, in this case I highly doubt that SLK would sell his stuff at a knock-off price)

 

Let's assume those you said above are correct. I have question in my head, What if SLK revised the design which is different with Dino's model, then the issue will be settled?

 

why wont he just accept the fact that he copied DINO's idea of the GTC?

it seems Dino did not accept his apology, pls see his #29 message. In order to settle this, I think SLK you should sucide or Dino go to HK to kill.

 

For Dino, I think it is better to say something with it on accepting his apologies or not, rather than all ppl in whole world keep yelling.....
