what did Enzo say to piss off Lamborghini?

I can't find the exact quote, but it was something to the effect of...you stick to making tractors and I'll make cars

 

Something to do with "you aren't worthy of my cars" and "the chicken came before the egg". It was the latter part that sent Lamboman over the edge.

Harry - that's pretty close to all the accounts I have read.

It was over the clutch to begin with. The poor quality of the clutch and the poor customer service given to him after the sale.

When he went to the factory he had to sit and wait a very long time in Enzo's office which got him steaming. To add insult to injury, Enzo would not see him and had one of his PR people meet with him. That's all she wrote.....

When we went to the Lambo factory the guide confirmed that the meeting between Enzo and Ferruccio Lamborghini was as a result of clutch problems on Ferruccio's Ferrari. As far as I can remember the quote above is the most accurate.

i've heard that he was not satisfied whit his Ferrari and had problems so enzo said that he could beter continue building tractors than car's

The way I heard it, when Mr. L angrily announced he was going to go off and build his own car, Mr. F apparently laughed and said 'una trattore gran turismo!'

Enzo said to Lambo, "hey uomo, senta l'odore di mio barretta" just as Ellen, aka Bride of Tractorstein aka Testa d'Oro was walking (albeit, barely) out the very bedroom Enzo'd just left.

Actually, corroborated several times over:

Ferruccio met Enzo at a party

Tractorman told Ferrari there were some design aspects he didn't necessarily agree with.

"If you don't like the way I build my cars, why don't you go build one in that tractor factory of yours."

(Incidentally, after the them fightin' words, the spurned one did put Alfa twin cams in a Ferrari engine & snared Bizzarini... )

 

The way i heard it, they met in a restaurant lavatory, standing in front of a line of urinals. Enzo did not recognize Sr. F. Lamborghini. Lamborghini spotted Enzo, though, turned to him and said, "Hey, you know, thata car i hava a yours. It's a not so good. It leaka the oil, it a don't start alla the time, and things, they fall offa it."
Enzo turned to Sr. Lamborghini, and said, in a torrent of Italian, something along the lines of:

"Scusilo voi bastardo ungrateful, io non hanno alcun'idea che siate, ma state orinando sul mio piedino."

Which, roughly translated means: "I think you are an ungrateful bastard, and do you know you are pissing all over my leg?"

Through the mists of time, and awkward repetition, the story has been transformed into Enzo 'pissing off' Lamborghini. But as often happens in the case of history, the truth is quite the opposite.

 

Moral of the story: always better to be pissed off, then pissed on!

Interesting how ego and temper can motivate people in business.

Not to different from when Lee Iacocca left Ford with revenge...

 

What's even more ironic is that this wasn't the first time Enzo pissed someone off. After he pissed of ol Henry Ford, Henry handed Enzo his ass at LeMans.

 

Very true. And Ford decided recently to hand it to them again.....in a different way. The GT, lower priced, quicker and faster in all aspects, and more exotic to view.(subjective of course).
