I believe I am the TR owner in Atlanta with the "Flowmasters". MY TR has a custom exhaust that is comprised of two "Cherry Bomb" mufflers, no Cats and stock headers.

The system is not stainless, not trick looking, not "Tubi" but does have the following advantages:

1.) Cost: Less than $500.00 all together.

2.) Sound: Sorry Tubi guys, Capristo guys, etc. My car sounds sooo much better it is just no comparision. Just ask anybody in the Atlanta area!! It sounds like an old 312PB sports racer. So far, from what I have been told, the car is the best sounding street Ferrari that most anyone has ever heard!!

Finally, I have also made my own stainless system for my 360 F1. This time I made my own muffler-no Tubi, no flowmasters, etc. All my own design, and once again, it sounds better than any Tubi equipped car out there.

Lesson for all--You do not need to spend $3000-$4000 on a tubi, etc. It is just wasted money!

I didn't spend anywhere near that for my Larini (then again its an 8, not a 12). Your way works as long as you can find a reputable muffler shop. I just wasn't comfortable with "well, we'll give it a shot..."

One of the reasons I went with the Larini was the sound and price. I just don't care for the Tubi sound (IMHO, plz no flames) and the price.

    Different strokes for different folks.
I kinda understand what you are saying, and would even agree with you that there is a certain level of vanity/impracticality involved. But I'm not a very practical person, or I would never be considering Ferrari ownership.
As for 'irony', consider your reasons for wearing a watch that you feel is a POS. You can escape your situation by simply giving it back!
OTOH, the only way I can escape mine is by becoming a totally 'practical' person, which doesn't appeal to me.

Why would that be a "..terrible idea.." ? Flowmaster makes great mufflers and other exhaust components that sound great, look good and are reasonable priced. I also like Cherry Bomb type glass packs...in fact, the best sounding Boxer I have ever heard was a BB512i with four Cherry Bomb type glass packs! Don't like those overpriced companies that cater to exotic car owners fool you...a good muffler can be produced and sold, even in stainless steel for a few hundred bucks...not the thousands charged by those overpriced companies like Tubi, ect...

A few years ago I had a magnaflow system insatlled on my 750il BMW. Removed the resonator and went 2 1/2 in all the way. You wouldn't believe the sound. If someone is interested in going this route, just talk to the hot rod guys in your area, I'll guarantee the'll know the right place to go. The craftsmanship on my system was beautiful, I'm sure you could find the same.

Ahh yes, give grandma that memory to ponder in her last years of life, that would be the right thing to do. It was an expensive gift, I am sure she believed a Rolex is the best, and as such choose to give them to her grandchildren as gifts. I wear my Rolex once or twice a year for a few hours so the old lady can see it, it makes her happy. Why would I go out of my way to insult a person that gave me a gift? I do no see irony in my actions, but rather empathy and appreciation, but you can disagree.

A practical Ferrari is one that is about 10 years old and near the bottom of its depreciation curve, and well serviced. A new Ferrari is a waste IMO, in five years and less than 5,000 miles any production Ferrari is worth $100,000 less than its MSRP.

Rolex holds an ok value, yet a Patek Philippe generally in a very good investment :)

As for cherry bombs on a 308, i got 'em. i love 'em. They rock! Works great on the street, even nicer at the track. Little back pressure, revs freely. Cost is cheap. Weight is light. Cheap to replace.

Pics below are the cherry bombs after years of HARSH NEW ENGLAND SALT ROAD winters and track time.

Second pic is headers that came back last month after being sent to Jet-Hot. Might have the entire exhaust (minus headers) 'refreshened' and sent to Jet-Hot.

And those who ask for sound, how about some track footage? Note after the uphill/right turn the car goes to about 8,300 rpm then off the gas to speed correct to take her around 'the bowl.' The sound is erotic in person, sorry the video kinda bits, but it is compressed. Meet me on the track or ask the local New England folks about the sound.

Save the bucks and weight, go Cherry Bomb :)

REMEMBER: have your car's exhaust analyzed after going Bomb for lean/rich.

    Chris,

I see. Your 1977 GTB has the transitional shield like the one I pictured below. My 1976 has no shield at all (mine's a Euro ANSA).

I'll take those 5 year old $100k off of MSRP cars please. Where do I find a '00 360 with under 5,000 miles for $50,000?

As far as exhaust, go with what makes you happy. We have a 512TR with a CVX racing muffler that is very impressive in the sound department.

Brian, let's hear it dude! If your claim is true, you will hear a big clunk, which will be my Tubi going into the scrap pile...sound is EVERYTHING in a Ferrari...
    DO YOU HEAR IT??

    ok, well, maybe not EVERYTHING...haha
SERIOUSLY, post a sound clip or enough with the bold claims! And no excuses, if you can fab a SS exhaust for your 360 you can figure out how to post a sound clip, eh?

Nope. 2 Separate pipes right side crossing over the left. The sound is superb in the cockpit especially when the tach is rapidly rising above 4k.

My TR (not mine anymore :( ), has a TUBI with hollowed cats. And I paid only $1500 for it with installation :) , and it sounded pretty good.

One guy who should chime in here is Adam Goldman (ASG86TR). He has an '86 TR with a Koenig racing exhaust, it's very LOUD!!!! Maybe he can post up a sound clip....

Here's my TR's exhaust...no precats or cats, just 4 straight-thru mufflers and out the back. This is an old Borla system that I busted many a knuckle getting to look this way...also had to fabricate some bracketes for hanging the system from the factory points. But the results are worth it, and I will try and get a sound clip or video of it. But I'm a bit technically-challenged and make no guarantees. But with a little luck we'll see.

Looks almost like a Borla set up. Only prob is that O2 sensors only read 3 jugs per side. Thanks Sean. Hope business is good in SLC.
