Good Evening All- I have a 1971 365gtc/4 with only 18,900 miles on the clock.
This is my 1st Ferrari. Certainly, this car has spent most of it's life parked in a garage. Although it seems to run well, I can't help thinking it could run a bit better. My biggest concern is when I start it after a week or two of not being driven. It seems to only fire on 2-3 cylinders, then 3-4 more come alive, finally all 12. When I say finally i'm talking maybe 30 seconds of running. I wonder if all it needs is a few hours of spirited driving, or maybe something more. I'm thinking of some new ignition components, i.e. plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Also, are you all sitting down........6 new webers. I know that the original could be rebuilt, but would the end result be as good as a new unit????? Just looking for some advice......and any info on where to source the listed parts.

    Thank You-Geffen365gtc/4

Don't think you'll find 6 new Webers for a Ferrari V12, very rare and expensive if possible. You can rebuild them though as good as new as thats whats great about webers is all the wear parts are replaceable.

Your problem sounds like ignition, a set of NGK BP5ES or equivalent plugs should fix the V12 right up with your missing problem.

at the risk of saying something simple - be sure if it has not run for a while to give the fuel pump a chance to fill up all of those partially empty carbs and fuel lines - that will take about 30 seconds or so.
You may find it runs better if it runs more often.
What a great car! Would love to see and hear as it has always been a favorite!
    Good luck!

    Keep it simple.

Perhaps it's time to see what 4 new sets of points, rotor arm & condensers will do.

May be not so simple, where there are two distributors (US) or one (Euro) tucked way back under the dash and wind shield.

I do think you need to figure out what is happening. You might try starting the cold engine using a friend to turn the key. Put a timing light on one of the spark plug wires that you think takes longer to light off and check if you are getting spark right away or if that takes time. If you get a spark right away, but no firing (can be tough to ascertain), then the issue is likely fuel, if not, then the issue is likely ignition.

I would pull the plugs and inspect them for evidence of fouling, which would occur if you have bad ignition. Also, as SNJ mentioned, I wait until the clicking of the fuel pumps slows down before turning the starter key. This ensures the bowls are full. Sometimes it's hard to hear the clicking over the Dinoplex whistle! It should not take 30 seconds however...15 at most for me.

You might post the same question on the 365 GTC4 forum, to which I think you belong. No need to replace the Webers, esp after only 19k Miles. It is important that the carbs are synched. Check the Members Forum for various note on how to do this.
