Another 30K done!!!! My 85 is very happy. I drove around today and it ran great. I bought my parts from Evans Auto this time. I will say I was very pleased with the belts and tensioner bearings. Dayco have always been my favorite. Plus, the SKF T-bearings he sells are very robust and I liked them better than my previous set which had a gold pulley with a different SKF bearing inside. Now I need to repaint my plenum and I have the A/C compressor out ready to do the rotary compressor conversion. I installed a rotary compressor on my 78 and I am very pleased so I want to convert the 85 over to one as well. Anyway, just thought I would share.

Looks good. Is this Evans Auto local place? I need to get those parts too. You mind if i ask how much for the belts and bearings?

Yes they are Columbus Ohio I think. I will have to look at my receipt to be sure but their website is either evansauto.com or evansautomotive.com.
Just for the T-belts and Tensioner bearings were around $260. I highly recommend the belts and t-bearings that they sell. He also sells clutch kits for around $400.

Sorry Daniel. I didn't mean to imply it was a screaming deal. I will say that I am very pleased for the money I paid. I just compared it with my previous supplier and was pleased for the money. Plus, I am very happy with the build quality of the belts/tensioners I received. I bought from another supplier previously and had a bearing fail within one year.
I clicked on your link and was wondering are your tensioner bearings SKF or ?.
I don't want to take any business away from you. I have changed quite a few t-belts on my Fcars and I was very pleased with the quality of parts so I thought it was worth mentioning.

I just wrinkled coated a valve cover this weekend. Try VHT Wrinkle Plus Coating, SP-204 Red. It looks great.

Thanks Tommy. I need to repaint it. I just need to find the time to remove it and get all of the old paint off. Where did you purchase your VHT paint? Local Auto parts store? (AZ, AAP etc?)

    No worries mate!

The bearing I referenced at $65 is indeed the "silver" SKF bearing -- exactly link you probably just installed in your car. A blue SKF box, bearing wrapped in a wax-paper like stuff... right?

(EDIT: Just added a picture: http://ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=224308)

The picture (and link) you just sent was the OEM/junk one left over from Sodacoms. I should probably remove it entirely. I need to spend some time making the website more clear -- it's just hard to get all the details banged into the pages when my phone seems to never stop ringing.

No sweat... as long as your QV is back on the road and you're having fun in your garage, that's all that really matters!!

(Believe me, I nearly "bought the farm" this weekend in my 348 in rural North Carolina. The fear of buying all those new body panels was the only thing that slowed me down... a 348 can be a serious handful)

It very well could be the same bearing. If so that is a great price (best price I have seen) and I will buy a set soon as my 78 is due for its 30K. It has already been 3 years. I know what you mean. I miss my 348TS. I had a lot of fun with it. I drove it almost everyday. I sold it last year but I always keep my eyes looking for a nice one.

Nice pic. I didn't write the part # down off of my new bearing but they look similar. I agree they are superior to the gold OEM style. It is funny that for the half the price you get a much better t-bearing. Thanks for loading up a pic. Glad business is going well sounds like too well as your phone rings all the time.

Hey guys. I went to Autozone and they had some in stock. I am not sure if your local AutoZone will have it but maybe they can order it. It might save you a little on shipping. Thanks Tommy for the paint info.

I found Krylon red wrinkle at autozone. I've been experimenting without much success. If I put it on too thin it doesn't wrinkle, if I put it on thicker it runs. Did you have these problems? Any tips (should I scrap the Krylon and get the VHT brand?)

So it is recommended to replace the tensioner bearings at each belt service? Has anyone tried NicksForza pulleys?

I did like the can said: I sprayed on a couple of heavy base coats first. It suggested using a heat lamp so instead I threw it in the oven for about 30 minutes at about 200 degrees (I'm single, I would recommend the rest of you guys check with the wife first before this step). I then sprayed a few lighter coats and baked it again until I got the wrinkle I wanted. The more light coats, the more wrinkle. I really think the oven helps the wrinkle set up good. I think that is the real secret but it will stink the living **** out of your kitchen. I am not kidding.

Yes you must replace the bearings whenever you change the belts. They are the main cause of failure more so than the belts themselves.
