i was hoping to get the feelings of the f-chat folks w/ regard to the gt-40 being produced by superformance.

    http://www.superformance.com

the car is said to be very authentic and identical dimmensionally to the real thing. it is said to be complete for $90k w/ 427 mounted to a zf box.

sounds like the baddest ride on the road for under 200k.

an interesting comment made by the superformance folks was that a right hand drive version will be available that will be fia legal to participate in vintage events like the le mans classic. i wonder about the truth in that statement...but if true make the car even sweeter!

    comments...Jim G??

We were doing a LamboEast event a couple weeks ago- one of the sponsors is a licensee/builder of those cars here in NY. There were also a couple of the new Ford GT's there brought by participants in the run. The Superperformance cars just seemed tiny by comparison. Might be ok for a track car, but driving on the street for any length of time, i dunno.... (They were cool looking, have no idea if, from a mechanical standpoint, they stand up to the real thing, though). (Lots of pics in the ny section on the running of the bulls). For your convenience, here's the link: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79337

Good read Peter. Thank you. I am not an expert, but the car looks great!! For 90k, a real bargain. Did you find a weight anywhere?

thanks for your comments whart...i will look in the ny section. are you sure it was the superformance as i am told there is only one in the states that has not been on the road yet. further, they are all built as full rollors in south africa and only engine anf box are added in the states.

the cars you may have seen could be cav cars which are not dimmensionally accurate to the og.

but let me look the the ny section....

It was Snakepit in Long -guy land, which is shown on the website you linked to as an authorized dealer. I know the cars are basically created in South Africa, sans drive train, then assembled here. That's what i meant by licensee/builder, sorry for confusion.

I haven't seen a Superformance GT40 but I have seen an ERA and it was as close to an exact replica as I've seen. It's also legal for Historic racing if I'm not correct. Check it out: http://www.erareplicas.com/gt/gt.htm They also will take different V8 engines.

whart, the mk 2 pictured in the 4th page of the ny section is in fact the superformance car...that is the only one state side currently.

it is a silver/gun metal w/ black stripes...it was recently at sema.

the car has apparently gotten a few people angry including my friend lee holman. lee's car is the best recreation or continuation car...but very expensive!!!

look at page 4 in the running of the bulls in the ny section...i think you will be impressed!

aj, the weight is said to be under 2500lbs w/ 427. we will have to see!?

whart...thank you for posting the picture...that's the one!

it will also be avail w/ brm style pin drive wheels. the demo will be in mooresville , nc and i was invited to drive it. i will dertainly report on it but it looks like a very nice machine and actually incorporates a real monocoque chassis like the og.

clearly not real but it seems as nice as a safir or holman car. i hope jim g will make comments as well.

Are you kidding? I thought they had half a dozen of those cars at the facility. Maybe i didn't look closely enough- were there different versions or models of the Superperformance GT 40?

based on what i was told today, a total of 32 orders have been taken but only the show car is here in the states. the mk 2 is the only one produced but it seems the demand is for the more recognized mk1 so well known for the john wyer gulf colors. whart, unless superformance was not honest, they did indicate the car is still in beta test form. but the car you posted a picture of is in fact the car.

If they're anything like the superformance cobras then they'll be a quality product.I used to work at the "house of cobra's" in Orange, ca. and they used to sell and assemble the Superformance cobra. I used to assemble them and I was very impressed with their product. They would come out of the container with a Beautiful paint job and Of all of the pseudo-cobras they had body lines closest to the originals.I worked on all of the various Cobra replicas and none came close to the superformance. A real nice product.
