Is it possible that Maserati goes through the embarrassment of having FAKE exhaust pipes on its flagship model?? According to this pic (taken from the Evo review of the MC12), it looks it really is fake....
I remember that pic being discussed somewhere (along with the answer to your question). Just dont know where... if you chec out other mc21 pics you can see the exhaust is there. Is this a pic from Evo thmeselves? Maybe a mule car?
So what if it has fake exhaust tips? Usually, 2 exhausts get better power than 4. I don't exactly know how but i know that 2 out of the 4 exhausts on the Dinan BMW M3 are fake.
I never said that 2 exhaust pipes are bad, but having FAKE exhaust pipes is a completely different thing! Fake pipes are for tuned Civics with 1.6l engines that barely make 150 HP, and not for an exotic cars like Maseratis that make double the power, or in the case of the MC12, triple the power! Maserati (or any other exotic/high performance marque) cannot afford to do that!
I'd rather have a symmetrical rear end on my mc12 than just 2 pipes on 1 side. Agreed, they could have put 1 on each side....but they didn't so what can 'ya do.
Ok, did a quick google and came up with many pics that show real pipes on both sides: http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-mno/Maserati-MC12-Blue-RA-Studio-1920x1440.jpg http://maseratinet.com/IMAGES/mc12stradalegineva.jpg But then this: http://www.automobilemag.com/photo_gallery/0505_maserati_mc12_08_1024.jpg The right ones look fake in that pic
I find it hard to beleive that Maserati would put fake exhaust tips on their most expensive model. Thats something people do to their Civics and Sentras like already stated but not on a Maserati. Easy way to figure this one out is to ask someone who owns a MC12 on this forum. I dont know who that would be but find out and ask them. And the exhaust tips dont have anything to do with hp.
There are actually 2 sets of pipes... the inside are used when the exhaust valve is closed and the outside pipes are used when the bypass loop is used at full throttle and stuff like that. I may have them switched around, but you get the idea
Im guessing you dont actually read EVO, since that same question was asked by a reader and we later found out it was a Fiat Uno with a bodykit
i think this will clear some of you guys... this MC12 is in Korea and doing the emmision test, i also have pic of Enzo doing same test in Korea but the pic are too big and i can't attatch it... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmm.... so maybe different markets need more sound supression than others. But they want to keep the look the same, so it has that bigger muffler or not in some???
Allow me to answer the question, the car posted in the first picture is an aftermarket alteration for the MC12 with over 700hp made by EDO competition. Therefore the stock MC12 has 4 efective tail pipes
The tip may have a slot of some sort that has the effect of the old Snaps extractors found on GTOs', SWBs', etc. Just further speculation.
