i cant wait for that day ..... im from india and i know how hard it is out there to get into motorsport ......i'm just glad that F1 and motorsport in general is gaining popularity out there Narain did a fair job this year ..... i think hes quick ..... i think he needs a little more experience. settle down a bit ..... though ....if i had to compare who had a better season .... i would say Tiago. that being said ....Tiago and Narain...are both bringing in alot of money ..... they may not be personally rich ....but their sponsors sure are .....

goachild 2000, I don't know how much money pays Narain, but Tiago is not paying too much, because he has no big sponsors. Besides, the reason to be engaged, with Midland, so late this year are all those drivers like Sato and others that were dealing with the team because of there money and not of their speed.
I think you are wrong here are two stories on F1-live about Tiago driving next year for Midland and Narain not driving next year. You will see that Narain had a hard time raising the money and Tiago got the drive because he is heavily funded by the Pourtegese government. It has nothing to do with his speed. If you want to discuss speed, as crappy as a season Sato had, he is still faster than Tiago. Personally I think Sato has the potential to be faster than his previous team mate Jenson Button. There have been several stars in the lower formulae that bit the dust in F1. Success is not guaranteed just because you wiped the floor in F3 or whatever. Besides there were drivers who werent that special in lower classes that eventually did well in F1- the prime example being Michael Schumacher.
I do agree with you, but as for Micheal, I don't. Mike did very well in his lower classes of Formula. You also got to take into consideration he competed multiple formula's in one season. Yeah but he was considered by many to be not as fast as Karl Wendlinger or HH Frentzen who were deemed more likely to succeed in F1. But Michael sure proved them wrong
well, it's officially out: narain WON'T be racing in 2006. my local daily reported that he's been approached by midland, but the sum they were asking were too high. between 8-10 mil euros. his sponsors paid jordan 5 mil euros this year. he's bitterly dissapointed, and due to this, it seems that midland have now begun negotiating with tiago, who is heavily backed by the portugese govt. narain also said that he's now looking for test driver role. sad, as i think narain had the speed, not monteiro. monteiro was more conservative.

No, it's not the portuguese government who is giving money to Tiago Monteiro, but GALP, a private portuguese oil company, and a small amount by the portuguese tourism office (this one belongs to the government). That's usually in Portugal, because tourism is one of ours most important industries and if the money was not spended with Tiago, it would go to football or something like that.
well, thats my point. he's getting the sponsor, thats the bottom line, there are companies who are willing to sponsor him, not in narain's case.
thats what surprises me .... im surprised that TATA (narain sponsor) is not willing to cough up the money. I bet he could find all the money he needs ...he is a household name .... in india ..... just today .... ITV had an interesting article... apparantly colin blames narain's management. Narain has lost out because of his management, Kolles told the Times of India newspaper. A pro driver has professional management but we didnt see that in Narains case. Narain is a very pleasant, nice person but thats not enough for Formula 1. He has to be professional too. Kolles said Karthikeyans management allowed him to become distracted rather than focusing on the job in hand narain on the other hand said ...it has nothing to do with management ...and it has to do with money. i wish he got a drive ..... i think he is quicker than tiago. but who knows ...maybe a testing role with an uppper level team will calm him down a bit and give him some much needed F1 experience
well...yeah...i completely agree with u. u see, the fact is, he's backed by TATA, not by the govt. but like u say, i hope he gets a testing role and calm him down a bit, more experienced, who knows, he might just end up like massa is now...he might just end up driving a top team 1 day
Can you both tell me where Narain has been quicker than Tiago ? Anyway, I begin this tread saying I was happy for Tiago staying in F1, and that's what matters for me. In 40 years reading about F1 and motorsports all over the world I knew a lot of drivers who were not prepared to be in F1 (too many to right their names!), for several reasons, but never saw so much noise about a drive who is nice , polited, quick enough to be the best of the second division F1 teams. He is paying money...OK!....tell me of someone who has not been helped on the begining of his carrer...even Schumacher by Mercedes and Fangio by the government of Argentina...That's funny, Fangio has been helped by the government of his country, like Tiago...
If you look at Narain qualifying performance and fastest laps, he is quicker the Tiago. Plus he also gave Jordan their best qualifying yet. If you want me to post their qualifying positions, let me know.
honestly, to me, tiago was more concerned about finishing races. but narain was more concern of racing! btws, dun get me wrong, i still think both drivers are good, in diff ways, but i think narain was more commited.
Back in 2001, when driving for Minardi, Fernando Alonso was a pay driver, supported by Telefonica, a spanish company who paid millions back then. Just 4 years later he is the world champion! I honestly don´t remember seeing him doing a better job in 2001 than Tiago or Narain did during 2005... Did anyone back then said he didn´t deserve to be in Formula one?
I agree with you. My point to nunojcmaia is that no matter how much talent you have, you still need to bring in money. You just said it your self as talented as Fernando is, you would think Minardi would hire him without any pay. But with teams like Minardi and Jordan, they only look at how much money you would bring to the team. It is the same for Tiago, it has nothing to do with his talent. Its because he has good funding behind him.
agreed! if u look at a few month's ago of F1 racing mag, eddie jordan admitted that the main reason he hired michael schumacher back in 1991, cos he was cheap, and he brought a lot of money in. he never guessed that 1 day michael will be considered one of the best racers in the world.
