Hi ! I need to locate a complete fuse box for a 83 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet ..... Any help out there ? Thanx in advance , Mira
Hello, try fellow Mondial owner the Birdman. http://home.comcast.net/~jonathan.bird/ Good luck, John.
The Mondial has a completely different fuse box and layout to the 308 fuse box that Birdman has produced.
Mira, do a search for "mondial fuse box" - you'll find a ton of good information here. In short, you'll find that these are few and far between as available spares because, guess what, they're all bad! You could get lucky and find a good used one (new is NLA from Ferrari) but it's going to be tough unfortunately..... Good luck!
The best advice I can give is to try to get your hands on a fusebox from the Mondial 3.2 which will fit and wires up the same, but uses the blade type fuses and is much more reliable. If you replace the original fusebox from your '83 with a new one, it will flake out again sooner or later. Unfortunately, the 308 fuseblocks are not even close to similar to the massive fusebox/relaybox used on the Mondial. Birdman
Just went through the fuse box and rewiring problem on my 83 Euro version Mondial. There are several problems with the system that can be changed allowing for a long term reliable electrical system. 1. The fuse box, unless it has been totally destroyed by fire can be rebuilt by changing the circuit board to point to point hand soldered connections. When this is done there are several circuits that need to be separated because the electrical load is too large for the size of the wires for that circuit (fuel pumps, AC and radiator fans). 2. The problem with the fuses is not really the type of fuse but rather the mounting point for the fuses consists of two parts which over time become loose and create an increase in resistance which produces heat in the box leading to the usual under hood fire. This can be repaired and improved by using aircraft contact gel at each connection. 3. There are several circuits that are severly overloaded for the wire size, once again producing heat in the circuit, leading to a fire. 4. If the car has an alarm there is a high probability it is interfering with the proper load/resistance in at least one circuit causing overheating and resultant fire. 5. If the car has an aftermarket stereo high probability of similar issues as alarm...fire. 6. See a trend here? Unfortunately it seems each car is a little different, I had to work through four different wiring diagrams for a Mondial, and none of them matched the car...so ended up writing a new diagram and a new diagram for the fuse box. I live in Northern CA and can recommend an excellent shop. The owner is Italian and was trained at Ferrari and Maserati over a long period. He is a true craftsman (you should see the machine work on the steering rack) not a parts changer. His prices are more than fair. I have asked him if he would be interested in rebuilding more wiring systems and fuse boxes. He said he would consider continuing this time intensive work (about 40 hours plus the cost of the semi-retired tv repair guy to rebuild the fuse box) on a case by case basis.
